Yeah, I discovered when I was looking up the history of jigsaw puzzles, because naturally spending hours reading about the history of jigsaw puzzles is necessary to write 1000 words of fanfic, that cardboard puzzles and also having the picture printed on the box or otherwise available so you know what it's supposed to look like both became common in the 1930s! I'm sure there was at least *some* of that beforehand, but it wasn't really as much of a thing.

How charming! I have several elderly relatives who do jigsaw puzzles, the fancy, complicated 1000-3000 piece ones. They were called "dissecting puzzles" once, which I found out from a very good historical romance decades ago...

Oh, that's really interesting, I didn't realize they used to have a different name!

I used to do them as a kid and went through a phase a few years ago where I was doing a lot of them, but kinda lost interest for a while; I do still have all those puzzles, though, and maybe I'll get back to it this winter ...
