Coming back to say, I've just finished reading it, I adored it, I am delighted by the presence of a hot pilot and the excellent deployment of bear spray, all the characters were lovely, I spotted the villain about two pages before the reveal which is exactly where I like to spot the villain, and I would consider marrying Miranda <3

Oh, EXCELLENT, I am completely thrilled to hear this! And especially thrilled that the villain reveal landed where it's supposed to, because it turns out that the hardest thing about writing murder mysteries (at least for me) is not visibly telegraphing "this person is bad news, do not trust them" as soon as they show up. ;D

As for the hot pilot:

My brain: You know, normally in these kinds of books the love interest is the investigating police officer, but what if ...
The logical part of my brain: oh Layla no
The rest of my brain: oh Layla yes

she showed up with drinks and had a suspiciously clean and tidy campsite, which I'm guessing is about what you intended :-D

And, well, I can hardly argue with hot pilots as the love interest of choice, can I! Works in the Alaska setting, too.
