It's always nice to see a very small fandom have a Moment. Especially when I am in it.

The word count IS high but it's not like FFFX where you're stuck with all of it; you can default on the word count in increments. So like, if you write 2K and default on the other 8K, there's no penalty for that except you won't go out to PH for more than 2K.

I just looked at the tagset and there's a surprising number of canons I'm into.

There are also a bunch of opt-in non-fic mediums, so this is a good exchange to request things like in-universe recipes or maps or newspaper articles, that kind of thing.

RIGHT?? And since it's a large exchange with the general idea that your gifts may not all be by the same person, there's a higher than usual chance of getting small or obscure fandoms, too...

The mods will also add tags for you, if there's anything you want that's not in; you just need to query them about it!

But you're assigned your 10K just to the person you match with, right?

That's right! But you can unload and pick up pinch hits in 1K increments, so people often end up swapping parts of their assignment around. Last year I think I only did about 7K of mine and then made it up on PHs.

There's also a more formalized system for swapping parts of your assignment right after you get it, in case you don't think you can write 10K of whatever you got, or if you specifically want to put in a request for a specific person if they become available.

For example, if you wanted to request 2K of mine if anyone is putting it up for grabs for reasons you could put in a request there.

HOWEVER, I know this all makes it more complicated and you don't have to do ANY of this; you can just sign up like a normal signup. I'm not doing the special opt-in mediums and also not planning to do any swaps this year unless I get an assignment that looks really hard.

I just don't want to be bound to write 10K of any given fandom. But it looks like it's possible to spread it around. Hmm.

Oh yeah, the way the exchange is set up, it's great for that. You can do 2K of your actual assignment and make up the rest by picking up PHs in small pieces, or do your full 10K in different requests for the same recip if you know more than one of their fandoms, or just default on the part you don't want to write.
