sholio: glittery Christmas ornaments (Christmas ornament 2)

Solstice!

The shortest day of the year! I posted some pictures at my realname blog.

New cards from [personal profile] goss, [personal profile] oracne, and [personal profile] silverflight8 (sealed with real sealing wax!!). They're lovely; thank you so much! ♥

WE STILL HAVE NOT DECORATED THE TREE. We set it up on Thursday. This is becoming a travesty. I plan to get some ornaments hung tonight. On the other hand, having a bare spruce tree obtained from our own place is kind of pleasantly pagan for the solstice, I guess?

Speaking of such things, I accidentally plotbunnied myself with the idea of Zemo as a Sokovian genius loci/spirit-of-place. It's just such an interestingly fitting idea and full of angsty possibilities having to do with the destruction of the country.

I also posted a TFATWS Christmas story featuring the usual suspects.

Further posts coming with end-of-year book roundups and the like!

Huh that IS a neat idea for Zemo, given what happened with Sokovia.
Maybe his wish is to restore his country, but in the course of getting to know Sam&Bucky he realizes the present has supplanted the past?

On the subject of trees, there are no trees in Toronto, woe! I cannot get a tree because of a shortage or something (unless I'm willing to pay upward of $150 for it, which...no.)

In Germany traditionally the tree is decorated only on the 24th. Sometimes only bought early that morning on the last half day vendors are open. It is a really great way to maximize Christmas stress, as I can attest from a number of childhood Christmases where something with the tree went wrong (eg it didn't fit the stand, it was slightly too tall, the lights were malfunctioning etc) and it was extremely difficult to acquire the tools or replacement parts to fix anything because all stores would already be closed then.

One year my mother hacked at the trunk of a three meter tall tree (we had really high ceilings and it had to nearly reach them) with a kitchen knife that got ruined in the process because the trunk would not fit the old metal stand and we didn't have an axe in our household (and that was before the modern, easily adjustable stands that work with cables pulled and stuff). The next year we had acquired an axe, but that 24th it was knife against tree trunk.

Anyway, by traditional German standards you are still really early to put it up now, and the whole Christmas tree thing got started here.

ETA: And of course we do the presents on the evening of the 24th, so it's a real time crunch.

I love the photos! I'm in Michigan now, with real snow! But just flurries, and they may melt later in the day.
