... dammit. I've fallen for ANOTHER one. We started watching NCIS, and it took me a few episodes to get into it, but we're halfway through the first season now and I'm falling like a ton of bricks. They're all so adorable. Abby is the very definition of awesome, and Gibbs is precisely my kind of crotchety bastard, and his prickly-affectionate relationship with Tony and the rest of his weird little team makes me squee. Help!

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
They are all so very cute.. a great popcorn show to enjoy. Not so much into reading or writing fic...but I adore Tony and his friendship with Gibbs and I love Abby.

Its on USA network now..twice on wensdays..just started....something cool to watch while dealing with the stupid writer's strike.

I'm quite liking it ... if things continue in this vein, this might be another fan-obsession show (although I doubt if it'll manage to dislodge the clawhold that SGA's got on me). They're just all so cute!

[identity profile] alipeeps.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
So they've gotten to you too, huh?

I fully blame [livejournal.com profile] kodiak_bear for my addiction to this show.. a few people on my flist had mentioned they liked it but the coupla bits I'd seen hadn't thrilled me... but [livejournal.com profile] kodiak_bear kept pushing me to watch it, got me to try a couple of episodes, got me hooked and then enabled my growing addiction. Damn her!

I'm like you - I totally love Abby and I'm a sucker for "hard as nails but a softy inside" Gibbs and the way he and his team interact! At first I admit I found Tony kinda annoying but he totally grew on me - likewise at first I wasn't sure about the humour but now I love it to bits. It's a far more quirky show that initial viewing would suggest.. and I love it. :D

I was lucky that, just as I got addicted, the FX channel in the UK was showing two episodes a night on weeknights so I very quickly caught up on lots of episodes! And now I've got the first couple of DVD boxsets sitting in my basket on Amazon, waiting for payday (tomorrow!!) and a decision on whether to splurge or not! :D

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, yeah, I keep seeing people mention it on my flist, but it was Kodiak posting those clips that made me want to check it out -- and, a bit unusual for me, it was Abby in the clips that made me fall for the show to the point of wanting to see it. Then I discovered Gibbs and Tony and I was goooooone. Like you, I found Tony annoying at first, but he's quickly grown on me (as on everyone else, it appears). It *is* a lot more of a quirky show than the straightforward drama that I thought at first it would be.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
YES! Squee squee squee :-)

I hope you like the later seasons too - I love them best since I started watching from S3, but I know there are poeple who followed the show from the beginning, and are most loyal to the first too. And I wrote this (http://roga.livejournal.com/117887.html) like, three weeks ago, although it contains spoilers up to S4.

In any case: adorable sums it up. Team love!

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've found another cute team, oh my. And there's lots and lots of it to watch, too!

[identity profile] flingslass.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
I've watched it from the beginning and I'm a Ziva fan. I couldn't stand Kate! I LOVE Ducky and Abby :) I always go for the weird characters, and have you seen Ducky's mother yet? We actually watched this for Mark Harmon after seeing him on The West Wing as CJ's secret service minder. Love at first sight! Apparently he got the NCIS job after West Wing. We also have a copy of Summer School, a movie he made in the 80's. Did you know Mark Harmon was in an episode of Emergency! back in the 70's?
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Kate leaves? Nooo! I like them all! Don't tell me this! (No, seriously ... I'm just getting into the show; I don't want to know about future cast changes!)

I had major cognitive dissonance at first with Mark Harmon because I know him from a show in the 80s -- I don't remember what the name of it was, but my mental picture of him is really young and dark-haired, and this is the first thing I've seen him in since. In the first couple episodes it was strikingly weird to see him with gray hair, being the "old man" of the team!

Old man, indeed

[identity profile] cj-smith.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You're probably channeling Harmon from 240-Robert, when he was a cop with John Bennett Perry (Chandler Bing's dad) and long, leggy Joanna Cassidy. A much better version of CHiPs, although short-lived.

No surprise you like NCIS- it's the only CSI-type show with this amount of humor, and it only gets better each season. And the team - regardless of who's on it in any given seasion - dynamic is terrific.

And what's not to like about Harmon, Weatherly and McCallum (talk about old heart-throbs), and the incredible Abby Sciuto. LOVE Abby.

'sokay, I'm a spoilerphobe, but I'm trying to learn to curb my "hammer of doom" reaction. *g* Just don't tell me HOW she leaves, and I'm happy!

[identity profile] flingslass.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm used to spoilers because Aussie tv is so far behind :) We just use the internet for our TV now.
I'm new to lj so I forget things sometimes, your reaction was quite understandable. (Sometimes we need to be reminded with a slap to the back of the head :)

NCIS is fun! It never sucked me in to that point of obsession necessary to get creative, but I still love it. If you're looking for fic, kikkimax (http://www.fanfiction.net/~kikkimax) has written some amazing, long, action-adventure type stories (Angels and Heroes, Legends and Myths, The Jagged Heart).
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I'm to the seeking-out-fic point for this one yet, especially since I'm still in heavy spoiler-avoidance mode. But I'll note that for the future!

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome to NCIS! *happy grin*

NCIS is how I got sucked into fanfic, LJ and SGA fandom. Had never heard of SGA until I ran into one of [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock's NCIS/SGA crossovers. Loved the crossover, started reading SGA fanfics and only then did I start watching SGA. *g*

Here's the link if you're interested:

Highly Classified and very hush hush (http://www.glitterati.talkoncorners.net/log/snapshots/ncissga-highly-classified-and-very-hush-hush/)
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL ... why am I not surprised there are crossovers? No farther along than I am yet, I'd already thought, "Hmm, what if NCIS had to investigate the death of a Marine on Atlantis?" (Mostly because I'm *dying* to put Abby and Rodney in a room together...) I'm not surprised it's been done; but I wanted to do one! *g*

(Out of curiosity, is it McShep? I know most of her work is.)

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not McShep (wait, lemme read it again for hidden subtext, it's been a while since I read it ... - no, it's completely safe) This is the only crossover I know of (this one and the follow up Strictly on a need to know basis (http://www.glitterati.talkoncorners.net/log/snapshots/ncissga-strictly-on-a-need-to-know-basis/") ). As I said, never heard of SGA before this fic, so to say I was confused when I read it is a big understatement, but oh wow: Gibbs the Marine meeting Sheppard the Flyboy was worth finding out what SGA was all about.

I would love for you to write NCIS/SGA!
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's really not that I have a problem with McShep in general (I quite like some of Pru's stories) but I think it's in crossovers when I get the most nitpickety about characterization and character relationships -- because it's hard enough to keep two casts straight (er, straight in my head, not with regards to orientation *g*) without also having to keep track of how the author has paired everybody off!

[identity profile] trystings.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
lol... I know what you mean. Still, no pairing in this one, but try and read this without any knowlegde of SGA as I did. Talk about keeping track; I didn't get any of the SGA references. None. And because of this one sentence ... He’s loose in the shoulders and unconcerned, and Gibbs thinks that if he had to call this guy his CO, he might die a little on the inside ..., I begged a coworker to let me borrow his SGA DVD's and watched two seasons in three weeks. One sentence! And six weeks later I bought them myself. The power of fanfic - the creators have no idea how much money they make from fandom. *g*
ext_1981: (Wiseguy-Vinnie moodlit)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Poor Gibbs! He really wouldn't know what hit him! I must read this ...

And, I know what you mean; I think very nearly every DVD set I've bought in the last two years has been either something I became acquainted with through fic or vids, or something that was recommended to me by someone I met through fandom! They have no idea how much money they make off us!

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw, you poor thing. And you're only on the first season. It's a great show, I love Tony and Gibbs to death, Abby is my homegirl, and well, not sure how far you're into the first season so I won't go on about characters that might not have showed up yet *g*. Ah, and some of the running jokes/gags start I want to say mid-to-late season one, so you're in for a treat.

If the obsession ever ventures forth into the fanfic arena, there's a few good ones I can rec to you.
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
We'll see about the fanfic -- so far, I'm already to the point of trying to cautiously poke around Youtube for nonspoilery music videos, which is SO not a good sign.

[identity profile] greyias.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
*shakes head sadly* You're done for.

[identity profile] nebbyjen.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much agree with all the others said. :D I've been hooked ever since seeing episode 1. Never to the point of writing fics but hopefully that won't stop you. Enjoy!
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly hasn't taken very long for it to hook me, so I imagine a full season or two will totally do me in. *grin* At least it's giving me something to do while I wait for SGA to come back!

[identity profile] spark-force.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Awesome. I love NCIS so ridiculously much-- it's my happy show, the one I watch faithfully every week and never have to worry about being too disappointed with. The characters are really the best part, they're such a family and you can tell the actors are really enjoying being on the show. And every time I watch it I realize I have *so much* to learn in terms of writing characters well.

And I think you're in for some great stuff in seasons to come-- unlike a lot of shows, it only gets better as it goes on, and season 5 has been my favorite so far.
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee! Lots to look forward to!

I think the shows that really suck me in are the ones where the actors seem to really like working together; that's one of the things I like about SGA, too.

[identity profile] ldyanne.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
*snickers*

Oh, yes, NCIS is of the awesome!

[identity profile] ldyanne.livejournal.com 2008-01-03 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been watching from the beginning and this show really has only gotten better! It hasn't been updated for awhile (read a year or more) but Pauley kept a blog for awhile that is totally adorable. It's worth the time to read what she has there, because these people all just love one another - http://www.cbs.com/primetime/ncis/blog.php It's part of the reason why I love this show is because they have such a good time together and love being together!

[identity profile] anniehow.livejournal.com 2008-01-04 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, yes, another one bites the dust! I've gotten hooked up fairly recently myself (sometime this summer) I find it adorable, no other word for it. I got into it because I read an awesome SPN/NCIS fic which I really must find the time to rec in all it's glory on my LJ... where was I? Right, as soon as they started snapping pictures of themselves on airforce1 in the pilot I yelled "hell yeah!" and fell hard :) Tony is the character that, IMHO, went through the most changes in the first two seasons. Viewing them fairly quickly it seemed that at the beginning they weren't entirely sure of what to make of him, then started to play to the actor's strengths and he comes out fully only towards the end of season 2.

And, not to spoil you or anything, but there's plenty of h/c to be had in this show as a general rule... maybe not as much a SPN, but definetly more than SGA.

And I agree, it just keeps getting better as it goes on ;P
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, it IS adorable! They're such a fun, quirky bunch. I'm delighted to hear there is h/c ahead -- yay!

[identity profile] helen-c.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to stop lurking on LJ...

Just so you know, you're the reason I bought all the Dresden Files books last year, because you were squeeing so hard about them (and I loved them to bits, too). And now, this?

I've been watching NCIS from the beginning, and for weeks now, I've been pondering whether or not to buy the DVDs. And then, I read this post and all the comments, that reminded me of how much I love it, and what do you think's going to happen in five minutes? Heh. I'm totally blaming it on you.

That show is great; I love the friendship between the characters, and yes, Abby is all kinds of awesome, and I love Tony (though I must confess, I prefer serious!Tony to the goofball he usually shows to the world...)

Welcome to a new fandom. :D

Hee! I'm a pusher, I know. *g* It's really a fun show; I'm loving it so far, for a lot of the same reasons I love SGA -- fun, bickery characters and quirky sense of humor.

[identity profile] obsessed1o1.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! I was the same....i was watching it and thinking...no....no....i just CANT have another obsession! i just CANT! I watched the episode MISSING and fell in love.......it's so funny and the team and and and....it must NOT take over SGA! ha!!! but it's very close....no-one can top Shep but Tony is very close :D
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! It's awfully fun; NCIS has much the same appeal for me as SGA -- a fun group of oddballs who bicker all the time yet clearly enjoy each other's company. And I can't stop watching; we're almost done with season 1 already.

[identity profile] kodiak-bear.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
*I am the evil, spreading addiction*

It's a brilliant show, and I'm so excited you've fallen for it too! I don't think any show will topple SGA but it's so much fun! Damn this writer's strike because there's only one new episode left. *pouts*
ext_1981: (Avatar-Zuko fire)

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2008-01-06 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! You are a PUSHER! And those Youtube links you posted awhile back definitely have something to do with me checking out the DVDs.

SGA has my fannish place of honor right now. But I'm definitely enjoying NCIS quite a lot.

NCIS

[identity profile] fitzwiggity.livejournal.com 2008-01-07 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea, that was one of my favorite shows once two, but I had to stop watching it for various reasons...mostly because at the end of the season *cough*, well ask and I'll tell you why. It's a bit of a spoiler though, if you hadn't made it through the entire first season.
BTW, thanks for the penguine! It's really cute, and it reminds of my young teenage years when I had a thing for the PENGUINE CONSPAIRECY. (I can't spell at all, can you tell?) I would always think that everywhere there was a penguine, and that you couldn't get away from them. In any case, now I'm into the monkey conspairecy, which is a family joke really. Monkey's, monkey's, everywhere!
I've got to go. Which I could stay and chat but I've things to do, and stuff to work on. Speaking of which, would you read something for me later and tell me if it sucks or not? Thanks again,
Fitzwiggity.

We've now seen the end of season one, so ... I'm curious what made you stop watching! And I could look something over for you if you like, though I don't know how quickly I'd be able to get to it. Send it to layla (at) ravenschildren (dot) com. (My LJ email isn't working right now for some reason.)

[identity profile] tringasolitaria.livejournal.com 2008-01-08 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Wow - you're watching another of my favorite shows. :) Love this show a lot. :D

The first seasons were the best IMO. Without giving any spoilers, I think the show floundered a little in S4 and the beginning of S5 (there were some behind-the-scenes conflicts that made the news). But they're getting back on track I think. The personalities really make this show. And to me, Gibbs is really the core of the show. They're all wonderful, but Gibbs makes the show. His father/daughter relationship with Abby, his boss/mentor relationship with his team, his long-time friendship with Ducky.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the seasons as you catch up. :D

We're up to the start of season 3 now, and I'm totally loving it. Our viewing pace will have to slow down soon, since my husband's going back to work (he's a university professor, so he's off for the holiday break, but makes up for it by working long hours during the semester). But it's really been quite fun.

[identity profile] cybersyd.livejournal.com 2008-01-17 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
How did I miss this post? Yes, NCIS is all sorts of shades of awesome. Gibbs and his fatherly protectiveness/gruffness/reticient bastard kind of character, and Tony's flirty, secretly-brave-and-intelligent but acting like a prat, and then McGee! You've not yet discovered McGee!

It just gets better from the first season onwards. You'll love it.
