I am running on 2 hours' sleep and currently annoyed at certain RL happenings (not anything big, just health-appointment-related snafus), so I am going to do a meme which I stole from frith_in_thorns's tumblr.

... I keep trying to think of ones for White Collar (MCU is incredibly difficult for me to AU for some reason) but can't actually think of any I haven't already written. The one where they're space pirates? Done! Medieval monks? That one too! Neal is a dragon? hahaha of course. Superheroes? Yup.

So how about ... what haven't I done yet ... doctor AU! They're all doctors at a big city hospital. Peter's the head of the surgery staff. Diana is a brilliant but grumpy brain surgeon. Etc. Neal got most of the way through a medical degree before it was discovered he'd been conning people to pay for it (but he really IS an excellent doctor) so he turned to a life of crime, or at least he TRIED, but he ended up helping other people on the black/gray side of the law with his under-the-table doctor skills. I am trying to figure out if it would be TOO ridiculous if he got caught and is doing community service in the hospital, with Peter supervising him, or if maybe he should pass himself off as an actual doctor in the hospital as part of a con -- or maybe he has to! because Mozzie is badly hurt and he needs a full surgical suite, so he pretends to be a doctor from another hospital, and he just has to keep it going until Mozzie is well enough to be released. But Peter is onto him.

True OTPs don't come along for me very often, in the sense that I really can't stand the idea of seeing them broken up or with other people. But, with everything I've ever read/watched/etc. to choose from, surely I can come up with a few ...

Tony/Pepper from the MCU
Peter/Elizabeth from White Collar (sort of, because I also ship Peter/Neal in a vaguely guilty, "I know they would be terrible for each other, and ELIZABETH, but ..." kind of way)
Sam/Sybil from Discworld

I don't know if I have any ships that rare ... I think partly because I don't have all that many non-canon ships, and next to no crossover ones, so my ships tend to have some established fan base just by their nature. I do have some rare pairs (Rodney/Teyla from Stargate, Sam/Bucky from MCU) but I can't think of any off the top of my head that are terribly unique. I did run across a Sara Ellis/River Song fic once that made me really like them as a pairing, which might be the rarest pair I've ever really liked, but it's not enough of a ship for me to seek it out. (Which is probably good, because I can't imagine there's more than one fic like that!)

This is the thing about being in Harry Potter fandom. I have come to the conclusion that for any are two/seven/a million characters/inanimate objects/abstract ideas in the universe, there are at least a small group somewhere that ships it. There's Sorting Hat/Godric's sword fic. There's Draco/that one goblet he was drinking out of at the leaving feast in book one fic (thanks to the line "Harry could see Draco Malfoy banging his goblet on the table. It was a sickening sight." I wish I were making this up). I think my rarest pairing is Zuko/Yue, and I know there are shippers for that.

The worst part is, I wasn't even surprised. I saw that fic, and went oh dead god, of course. This is HP fandom. This is what we do.
