Avengers fanart: Catnap in the sun

I'm going to put this on Tumblr in the morning, but I wanted to let it sit overnight and look over it again before releasing it into the wild, since you can't easily tweak things once something's been Tumblr-posted. But there's no reason why I can't post it here right now!



This is for a lovely prompt by nefhiriel at avengersgen:

Bucky has spent far too much time locked up underground/going on night time missions. Cue rehabilitation involving a LOT of cat-naps in the sun. He doesn't even need a chair. He just follows the shifting sunbeams around and sits down on the floor and closes his eyes and enjoys the sunshine. And falls asleep. And amuses everyone, a lot.

This looks great, I really like their postures and how relaxed they are with each other. Though the bare background is a real counterpoint to the cosy feeling. I don't know whether that's intentional or not (like indicating it's just a temporary moment of respite in a unpersonal space rather than them having made a home), but I would have expected more in the surroundings, not necessarily clutter with those three, but like a lamp or a yarn basket or a shelf.

Thanks! .... and hmmm, that's an interesting point. The lack of clutter is partly by artistic design (I was thinking this is some sort of communal space in the Avengers tower, not anyone's home, so there just isn't much stuff there) but it's also a side effect of originally intending the background to be blank to concentrate attention on the figures, then deciding that they didn't look right just floating there without walls. Anyway, I'll think about it and see if I feel that it's in need of a fix or good as-is -- thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, huge room in the tower was my first instinct. I was actually even thinking exercise space, but the couch would seem odd then.

Lovely sense of temporary letting down his guard, and I love how neither Steve not Natasha are worried, because it makes it a normal thing and how Bucky trusts them.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking - big empty space in the Tower somewhere. I added the couch as an afterthought because I wanted Natasha draped on something, although now that you mentioned "exercise space" I kinda wish I'd used something like a weight rack, which would contribute EVEN MORE to the general effect I was going for, which was Bucky falling asleep wherever he can find a handy sunbeam and Natasha making herself comfortable, like a cat, on anything handy.

Though I kind of imagine that the Tower would have random pieces of furniture around; it probably started out rather nicely decorated with everything in logical places and organized -- Pepper would have hired someone competent to do that -- but then things would go haywire rather quickly as people started moving stuff around, dragging in random bits of thrift store furniture because they're COMFORTABLE, and so forth. (I may think about this kind of thing too much. XD)
