Website update & story stats

Whew ... added a total of 18 (?) new stories to my website from the last 6 months or so. I've been posting stories all over the place at a number of different communities, so even if you regularly read my work, there might be a story or two in there that you haven't seen yet.

Just for fun, I also compiled some stats on my work:

Total stories on website: 55
Total words of fanfic: 680,200 (!!)
(And this is counting only completed stories, written since 2006 and posted to my Stargate website! I am not sure whether to be impressed or horrified.)

For further fun ... I broke the stories down by approximate featured character(s). This was pretty tough, and highly subjective in some cases; I imagine that different people would see different "main" characters in some of these. But just for generally comparative purposes:

John & Rodney - 16
Ensemble/Team (at least 3 or more characters equally) - 10
John - 5
Teyla - 3
Caldwell - 3
Rodney & Ronon - 3
Carter - 2
Elizabeth - 2
Teyla & Jeannie - 2
Teyla & John - 1
Ronon & John - 1
Rodney & Carson - 1
Rodney & Jeannie - 1
Zelenka & Teyla - 1
Ronon - 1
Teal'c - 1
Ford - 1
Rodney - 1

Wow, and I was amazed I cleared 100,000 words for the year...

Go you!
(and I hope there's many more to come...)

Heh, thanks! I'm still not really sure whether to be impressed or horrified. *grin* And I can't figure out how it's possible that I can write an average of 3 novels a year (at least) of fanfic but stall out on every original novel I've tried!

Ooh! I'll check out some new stories. :)

Don't be horrified, my dear, be impressed: I certainly am.

As you know, I just got my account on LiveJournal in November and I got my feet wet by "friending" people whose fiction impressed me. Your Sam Carter story, "And to Dust They Shall Return," was one of the earliest ones I read and I loved it. You can see my comment at the story itself to know that. Not only was the story well-written and engrossing, it was subtle, stark, realistic, yet full of love (yeah, I just checked back and re-read it, I couldn't remember which story I'd read of yours that I liked, then I found it!). To top it off, it's thoughtful and insightful, as well. And the story's underpinnings include some of the major themes of Stargate Atlantis, especially, danger, isolation, alienation and loss. This is an example of terrifically well-written, worthwhile, satisfying product. I haven't read much of your fiction yet but if you'd only written that one story in all your time in SGA fandom, I'd still be impressed!

Thanks for sharing your work. Merry Christmas! Love, max

Oh wow ... I didn't actually know that you were that new to Livejournal and fandom. I am very, very flattered. Thank you so much! And, since we fan-writers are "paid" in comments, hearing from people who liked to read my stories is the very best thing ever. Thank you!

Been enjoying SG1 and then SG Atlantis for years, in my private way. And I've been reading the fics in SGA and other fandoms for years, as well. But I'm new to LJ and I checked which folks whose stories I had tagged to read soon were on LJ, and then I read those stories, and the ones I liked, I friended the authors! And you are definitely one of that new batch, for me! Love, max

You've made me take a look at my own this year...150,000 words! Eeek gads not including the 20,000 or so off at beta.

Yeah I hear ya about orginal vs fanfic.

Food vs crack is more like it.

Oh wow, go you! :) I am so glad that you've joined SGA fandom; it's not really fair to think of you as a "new" writer in this fandom anymore, and I've gotten quite used to having you here, but as I got into the fandom kind of late(ish), compared to most of the writers I read, it is very wonderful to see writers of your caliber jumping in after I got here. I really love your stories and I hope you keep writing for a long time to come. :)

Food vs. crack ... heeeee. I think that's fairly apt -- or maybe food vs chocolate, because chocolate is so much more rewarding in the short term (and in smaller doses), but it can't keep you going long-term, and that's where original fiction can satisfy me in ways fanfic can't.

I got into reading and writing in this fandom late as well. Thank you for your kind words, they mean alot from a writer that I admire greatly.

Wow! *stares at friendshipper in wonder and awe* I mean, wow, that's a lot of wordage! And all of it great, so keep it up and don't be horrified!! In fact; 'please ma'am, can I have some more?!'

Going to go check the website in case I've missed some of your stories *rushes off in shock at the very thought*!

And I see that you did find some. *g* I'm certainly not depressed over having written so much; I just wonder why my original writing can't seem to go so easily!
