Story: "In For Stormy Weather"

This was written for the fic exchange at [livejournal.com profile] sheppard_hc.

Title: In For Stormy Weather
Word Count: 17,500 (er, yeah ... maximum was supposed to be 10,000 *sheepish*)
Rating: PG, gen
Timeline: First season, between Storm/Eye and Defiant One. (Ford, we hardly knew ye!)
Summary: Even a little storm can sometimes cause big problems. Carson/John/Rodney friendship, plus most of the first season cast, and injuries to Sheppard as per request.
Notes: The prompt I received was for [livejournal.com profile] radioshack84; prompt is given at the end of the story, since it's fairly detailed and therefore spoilery. I do hope that it was what you wanted!

I wasn't sure where to leave you a comment, but I guess here is better than nowhere.
I love your story! I am more than enjoying this secret santa! As I was reading
I was just thinking how aweful been that sick is, poor Sheppard I felt for him with this horrible Pneumonia and been cold and wet, trapped and miserable with his hands cut by the metal, and then Electrocuted!!! that is some serious whumping!, poor guy! but I love the fact you took us back to where the friendships were still forming and the feeling of having someone care for you was new.
great writting as always.

oh!! and happy holidays!

I love the story! The first line made me LOL, the 367 emails in a *separate* folder - 369 shortly after - was also very funny! The 'don't poke the scientists' - ROTFL! Wonderful!

I love the interactions between the characters, and how John has trust issues and is still trying to work Rodney (and his friendship) out.

Simpson was brilliant - poor woman, trapped with McKay - I like her style though, threatening to kill him!!

And as for the 'bats' - LOL! And I'd loved to have seen Elizabeth's reaction to one in her desk... especially after not taking them seriously beforehand when it was just Rodney complaining (kinda serves her right, lol)!

A really good story with just the right mix of emotion, action and whumpage in it, and some great humour too!

*gg* Awww....so nice! :-) You just made my day!! *happy*
Sick Sheppard, hysteric McKay - and poor Elizabeth...*hehe* How many mails she received from McKay...? *grin*
And I loved how Sheooard was selfless and all but a martyr and of course nothing expecting for himself...and in the end: everybody likes him..*sighs happily* :-) Go Rodney! :-)
Just wanted to say that I like - no LOVE - every one of your stories and especially this just felt like a christmas present. So...THANK YOU! :-) :-)
And apart from that I can just agree to the reviews of ditraveler and leesa_perrie. :-)
Happy holidays and a nice week! ^^

This was fantastic! I loved the time line, right after The Storm and the expedition still coming together as a team. This was a rare glimpse to the reaction of John's almost epic battle with the Genii and the new impressions of awe. I love stories where John's unaware of his value of those around him and to see Ford, Zelenka, Simpson and everyone rally around them while the expedition is so young.

Killer bats! Electric storms, lighting, whumping and electrocution!! This was a wonderfully, gripping fast paced romp filled with great character moments and my favorite a sick John who's still heroic.

Thanks! (I thought the lightning strike might be a BIT much, but it was just such a perfect setup for it, I couldn't resist.)

Oh, here's where I can comment *slaps forehead* That was a great story. And sick John, yay! I have been having the biggest craving for sick-John fics.

Elizabeth paused a moment to let the vein behind her eye stop throbbing before she said, "John, you do remember that discussion we had last week about proper meeting etiquette, don't you?"

Sheppard's eyes dropped, looking for all the world like a recalcitrant kid. "It rings a bell, yeah."

THUMPER! YOU MADE SHEPPARD SOUND LIKE THUMPER! *g*

Great story. That was the most specific prompt I've ever read, and you met all the criteria. Love the friendship, h/c and humor, I bookmarked it halfway through. Happy Holidays.

Thumper, LOL! Glad you liked it, and I did have to fight a bit to get the prompt to fit, but I'm happy with myself for getting everything in there; I like to think that I got everything the recipient wanted. :)

I have to agree with trystings; I've never heard of a prompt that specific. But what you did with it- wow. Whumped!Shepp still fighting it out against all odds and "just a cold"; alien bats (who take up residency in Elizabeth's office, out of the whole damn city); irritated!Elizabeth who really, really needs some drugs if she's going to keep playing "Teacher";Rodney, who doesn't know if Sheppard's going to come back... not to mention how you tie it in to the actual episodes!

Incredibly well done. :D

Thank you; glad you liked it. Poor Elizabeth, it's like being a teacher at a kindergarten where half the kids are armed and the other half know how to build nuclear weapons. *g*

Another great story. :D Loved the 'season one' feel of this story, how they're all slowly starting to trust one another. And I love the way Sheppard is a little freaked out by being well-known and well-liked. So very in character for him.

Great work!

What fun that was! Bats that are flying fish, Radek looking like a soggy squirrel, email-happy Rodney, and the long-suffering of Weir were delights. I loved the S1 feel - John uncomfortable with attention, Elizabeth's surprise at realizing the team was forming friendships, the uncertain relationship between Sheppard and McKay, Ford!

I really enjoyed it.

Wow! This was just...so much fun, and you went back to season one with finesse, they felt still new and shiny and I enjoyed being back with Ford, even. And you nailed that prompt, completely. I really, really enjoyed this, so much!

Thank you! I found it actually quite interesting to work with the season 1 cast; as you said, everything was still so new, and they were still feeling each other out.

[identity profile] pansychubb.livejournal.com 2007-12-28 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh . . . very well done. Excellent Shepwhump. :-)

Also, great job on getting the "Season One" dynamics down - John *would* be working out the whole "coworkers becoming friends becoming family" thing at that point, wouldn't he?

Thanks!

I really enjoyed this!

Liked the way Sheppard was a bit freaked out by his own popularity - because it must have been a heck of an adjustment to go from flying a chopper in Antarctica to being the prodigal son of Atlantis and I enjoyed the way you showed it.

Also some lovely team moments, where they're all still unsure of each other. Very well done! Thanks for sharing.

Oh, I just realized I never responded to this! Thank you very much - I really enjoyed working with the characters with their early-season-one dynamic, still getting to know each other. It's changed so much over the last four years!

[identity profile] imbecamiel.livejournal.com 2008-06-23 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
(Erm, hope this is an okay place to leave a comment for the story - wasn't sure of the best way to go about it.)

Awesome story! This was recced to me a few weeks ago when I was asking after The Storm/The Eye-related fics, but I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to sit down and properly R&R until now.

Enjoyed this very much! Poor Sheppy, it's just really not his week, is it? When it's handled by a talented author, relatively minor whump like sickness, exhaustion, etc. (as opposed to being shot/stabbed/other such dramatic injury - not that getting struck by lightning doesn't qualify as dramatic, but you get what I mean...) can be my very favorite sort. And this was certainly excellent! Lovely combination of humor, character insight, whump, and h/c. Just what I needed today. :D

Definitely gets a place on my list of stories that shall be re-read!

Thank you so much! I'm absolutely delighted that you liked it -- I can't take full credit as the prompt was pretty detailed and I was going by what was asked for, but I really enjoyed writing it, and it was also fun to go back to an earlier era in the characters' interactions. Thank you very much for the comment!
