I love that Mirabile_Dictu story. It has just the right amount of the sort of permanent change that runs through her work, without extending so far beyond canon or into the future or into another culture that it reads more like original fic than SGA fic, which is a problem I struggle with in many of her other stories. I love the horror of the beginning, and the bond among the team, and the protective smuggling, and the family they've forged by the end. It makes me all huggy.

And I know what you mean about enjoying the adorableness that is Rodney/Teyla even while knowing that it wouldn't work on the show. That's actually how I feel about McKay/Sheppard a lot of the time, and that's one of my favorite pairings too. I think it's another manifestation of the fan's ability to believe several mutually incompatible stories about the characters at the same time.
