Innnnnnteresting ... you know, I think it's possible that our position is fundamentally similar, as far as the sorts of things that tick us off; it's just that the rationale is different. I think you're absolutely right that most hypocrisy is essentially a case of not thinking -- a calculated refusal to think about the other person's point of view. A thoughtful, informed hypocrite is pretty much impossible. But willful blindness all by itself doesn't bother me nearly so much as it does when it manifests itself as hypocrisy; it's more of an annoyance and a frustration than something that provokes my "Aaargh! Idiots! Attack!" response.
