Wasting time on a Saturday afternoon

Since I think that over the last three months I've probably discovered very nearly every SGA vid site out there, I decided to try something different and I've been searching for Lost vids this morning. It's darned near impossible to find non-ship vids, though. What I really wanted was some Jack/Sawyer -- I'd even happily settle for slash -- but man, this is a ship-intensive fandom, and a very het-intensive fandom as well. It's interesting to me how different fandoms fixate in different ways ... and obviously, the direction in which a fandom slants is also heavily affected by the nature of the show itself, and Lost is a very ship-heavy show. It's like apples and oranges to compare it to a show like SGA which has very little canonical ship at all. Still, I think I've been very lucky with SGA to have stumbled into a fandom, and specifically a very active subset of a fandom, that seems to groove on friendship and h/c as much as I do. I like Lost, but it's not my #1 crack of choice -- if it was, though, I'd be one frustrated fangirl, based on the last couple hours. Not that there aren't some good gen Lost vids out there ... but they're hard to find; you have to wade through a sea of ship vids.

And I don't want to give the impression that I'm categorically opposed to ship vids, or ship in general. Whether or not I actively seek it out, though, depends on the show. With Lost, not so much ... maybe because none of the couples grab me (except for Hugo/Libby ... *SOB*), maybe because the series offers plenty of het-ship so I don't feel the need to seek out fanworks for more.

During my Internet-free vacation, I did work on my next SGA story. Well, stories ... there are three of them. None are anywhere near ready to put up on ff.net, but one is actually getting pretty close to done with the first draft. I'll probably post some cookies soon.

EDIT: You know what else I'd love to find? Dead Like Me vids. I'm having no luck at all. If anyone has seen some, and can point me in that direction, it would be most appreciated!

Finally almost caught up with Lost. Just need to see the finale now... Eeek!

I seem to run hot and cold on Lost ... I think I might like it better, as a whole, if I'd wait and watch it in batches, because watching week-by-week I feel as if it drags and drags, only offering a good scene or a plot clue every once in a while. Of course, the last couple episodes rekindled my interest in the whole thing just in time for the long summer hiatus ... *snifl*

Music to the ears of this new fan of your work! derry667 suggested I read your fic "Running on Empty" at FF.net... so I did... and I was absolutely spellbound. I don't think I moved for the entire thing except to click on the "Forward" button. I was going to say so there, but let's face it: I probably would've gotten lost in the crowd!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you've got one more reader, terribly impressed by your characterisation, the 'voice' of the characters in both familiar and uncertain situations (Sheppard in combat situations, McKay with kids!!), pacing and plot, and just story over all. Something I noticed particularly was your use of nicknames, which are often just recycled from TV episodes, but yours were original and fresh, while also completely in the style used by the show's writers. It was a fantastic read and I really enjoyed it, thank you so much. And I'm really looking forward to your next story now.
