Comics fans, help me out here!

I still need to write up an episode reaction for 4x09 Miller's Crossing (OMG, WTF, wow) but in the meantime...

... I'm not sure how many of the SGA fans on my friend list are also comics fans, but for those of you who are, can anyone see the cover well enough to tell what comic Sheppard's reading in the last scene?

It's driving me nuts, because the trade dress is very familiar, and I just want to knoooowwwwww! All I can tell is that it's DC.

(And how much do I love that he's laying around in his quarters reading comics? The military commander of a city in another galaxy is laying around in his off time reading comic books. Oh John. *loves*)

Can't help you with this, but I will tell you that a few people have asked that question in the comments section on Joe Mallozzi's blog and apparently Martin Gero will be answering some of our queries about the ep sometime soon - so, fingers crossed that one of tells us.

If they do, I'll let you know. And yeah, WOW! What an ep...

Oh, I'm so glad that someone asked! I'd actually thought about going over there and asking as well. Looking forward to the Gero Q&A!

Ah, it seems we got a bit mixed up and Martin will be answering questions for Be All My Sins Remember'd not Miller's Crossing as he's off to Hawaii, or already there, lucky sod!

Anyway, Joe hasn't answered the comic question, but not to be put off, I've asked him again!!! Told him it's the 'burning question' in fandom at the moment about this episode!! LOL! He'll probably not answer...

Hee! We'll just have to keep asking 'till he does. *g*

I just had my b\f check, and he couldn't tell, apart from the DC.

Can't wait to read your write-up. I loved it, but not totally. Not as much as I wanted to.

Well, thanks for checking, anyway!

Write-up coming soon. :)

I had some technical issues with the ep, but the whole bit w/ Shep & the guy was just whoa...... That took my breath away on how Sheppard could do that.

Also - funny point of interest - The Wraith here is played by Christopher Heyerdall aka Halling.... so, I keep thinking, "Gee, that's the Halling-Wraith!" :-p

Nice to see that he's being kept in use, despite Smallville trying to snatch him up. *g*

Heyerdahl actually plays a lot of the Wraith -- possibly most of them. Usually when a male Wraith appears in more than a background role, it's him. Probably 'cause he's so tall!

[identity profile] ladyniko.livejournal.com 2007-12-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
*lol* Yep. Probably because there aren't that many tall male actors period and because, well, the SG folks like to reuse everyone they can..... ;) (That's like a running joke on one of the commentaries - is if they killed someone off, has it been enough time that they can bring them back as someone else...) Vancouver's actor pool has mostly been absorbed by Bridge Studios, I think. *g*

I hope Joe M answers the comic book question..his blog isup to 169 responses..think thats a record! Hehehe. Love it when a show plays in eth gray area and does something exciting with thier chracters so they're not so black and white.

Wow -- I'm glad it got a good response (or, at least, a strong response -- don't know if it's good!). I was thrilled to see them playing in the gray area and doing it well this time; their track record in the past is spotty, but in this case they really did address the emotional and moral implications of it, and I think that's what has been so hard for me to take with some of the episodes in the past. I think I could have dealt with Misbegotten or Michael much more easily if they'd had a wrap-up scene like this one did.

Its about 80% postive, a lot is about the eppy as a whole, a ton about John's choice, many like the added layer to his chracter, some are not so happy, but most are just uneasy about the choice, but think its fits with Sheppard's character and understand it for the most part.

It's been driving me crazy as well! I can't make out the cover either, but can see enough that I think I'd recognize it if I saw it, so I spent some time browsing through minimized DC cover galleries from the time before they changed their logo (it seems to be still the old round one), but I've had no luck so far. Given their prior geeky conversations it would make sense if it was a Batverse comic, but it doesn''t seem to have any of the standard Batman cover designs I regocnize from the last years.

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2007-12-02 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, my first thought was Batverse as well, but it doesn't look right. The overall cover design looks like something from Vertigo or one of the more "mature" titles, which makes sense for John, although I don't know if Vertigo uses the DC logo in addition to their brand imprint. (I actually thought it might be Transmetropolitan, which would be perfect for him, until I tracked down some covers and discovered that the logo just doesn't look like that.)

I thought of Vertigo as well, but Vertigo titles don't have the round DC logo on them, just "DC" as letters above the "Vertigo", except the earliest series before they became Vertigo, like early Animal Man. I checked Transmetropolitan as well, because of the red near the top, put that the letters are diagonal, not with this border effect.

I just asked the girl at the comic store. she was like 'huh'? she watches Atlantis and TOTALLY missed, wasn't paying attention at that bit. ::sigh:: I told her to watch the end again and tell me what comic it was! She should be able to identify it, seeing as she works in a comic store.

It drove me crazy until I got a hi-res version of the ep, and now I don't think it's a real comic at all, so it's no wonder I couldn't find it among actual DC titles. The cover reads, the best I can tell: "Marvelous Comics Inc. -- Comix Presents -- Cosmic Capers"

You can take a look yourself, I posted the screencaps:
