Random blogging on a Saturday morning

[livejournal.com profile] indie_ads is a new community for self-publishers and other makers of independent products (clothing, music, etc) to advertise their stuff. (It's brand new and still working out the details, so question and feedback are quite welcome!) There will be a DW version soonish. I've been recruited as a sort of backup mod/sounding board for the main mod, so if there is anything you'd like to see or anything you're not sure about, just say. :D

COMPLETELY unrelated to that, I'm sure no one wants to hear my tale of 6 a.m. woe and ick, but I'm going to tell you anyway, because oversharing is what the Internet is for.

We were awakened this morning, as cat owners so often are, by the sound of the cat being ill in at least two different places around the bedroom. After that, we lay in the pitch-dark bedroom contemplating our options. The light switch, of course, is all the way across the room, by the door.

Husband: We could wait for daylight.

Then we both heard the dog discovering the goodies and, um, making free with them.

Me: If I have to lie here and listen to this, you're going to be cleaning up after ME.
Me: *climbs over husband to get out of bed, having decided that my usual route out of bed isn't safe*
Me, very shortly, en route to the light switch: GYAAAAAAAH. [This is, I think, an accurate phonetic rendition of the actual noise I made.]
Husband: Find it?
Me: Found it. *hops off to bathroom to wash foot*

I swear there are times when I wonder why we put up with them.

You should invest in a bedside lamp. Also, eeww. (At least rats can't vomit.)

On the downside, you can't really teach them not to pee everywhere (and not just the small droplets they use to scent mark their paths either), so there's plenty of gross to go around...

I think my top "gross animal story" is finding that my cat had thrown up all over the blankets... after getting into bed.

Though she throws up less now than before. Poor kitty developed an allergy and couldn't keep any food down. But now she has the ridiculously expensive hypoallergenic food.

Yay for oversharing, I think is my point.

Like you, I've pretty much accepted vomit as part of owning a cat. Every cat does it sometimes, some more than most, it would appear. (I also wish she didn't keep peeing outside her litter box, but considering she only does it in one place--right next to the box--it could be a lot worse.)

I so hear you. My mental discussion with myself often goes that way with cats: get out of bed and clean it up (and hopefully not step in it in the dark) or wait till morning. Sigh. I'm pretty sure I've made that sound while stepping in cat messes.
