"THE LENGTHS WE GO TO, TO PROTECT FAMILY." *eeeeeeeeee squeeflail* (It's the little look, there, that makes the context crystal clear.)
I enjoyed this episode - it was a fun but not spectacular middle-of-the-season episode, with lots of entertaining little bits and some very fun Mozzie slice-of-life. Nice to see an episode with lots of June again. (Having researched the Cotton Club for the urban fantasy novel I'm currently writing, I was intrigued by the things they didn't mention in the episode. The original, archetypical Cotton Club, the 1920s/30s Duke Ellington one, didn't allow black patrons -- the entertainment was all black, and the clientele was all white, which is exactly as squicky as it sounds and is a small plot point in the novel I'm writing.)
I love that they're following up on the Neal-lying-for-Elizabeth thing! I wasn't sure if it would be brushed aside, but clearly it's being built up as a major feature of the back half of the season. I absolutely adore that Peter KNOWS Neal lying to him is extraordinary, and far from being upset, it's made him doubly determined to keep an eye on him and figure out what's going on. (Elizabeth: "Well, THAT plan backfired.") There is a really interesting, complicated, twisty dynamic between the three of them right now (four including Mozzie). One thing I have always loved about Peter and Neal is that they can be completely at odds and yet get along just fine most of the time -- it's like the quarrel gets utterly forgotten and the fondness comes out as soon as they get distracted with something else -- and this is the dynamic between ALL FOUR OF THEM right now: wary and suspicious and trying to figure out each other's game, but perfectly capable of working (and playing) together. I really adore it.
