Dresden Files
Oh, I've been forgetting to mention this, but the usual pre-release chapters of the new Dresden book are coming out on Jim Butcher's website! There are two chapters up already. :D :D :D
My spoilery thoughts:
I think I'm going to like the Cat Sith. I hope he turns out to be a permanent character, or at least, sticks around for a while. He can match Harry snark for snark, with the not-so-subtle underlying subtext of "... and I would totally kill you if I could get away with it." (Also, their interaction really reminds me of ... something. Something with a similar dynamic. I honestly have no idea what I'm being reminded of, though. Anyone have any possibilities?)
The rest of it, overall ... well, it's early to say. The thought crosses my mind that at this point, EVERYONE thinks Harry is dead, including the people who talked to his ghost in the last book -- which means I'm absolutely dying for Harry to start running into Murphy, Molly, Thomas, et al. While the exploring-the-Winter-realm angle has the potential to be interesting (... I guess?), and I do like Harry, the main draw for me with this series is Harry interacting with his friends.
(Although certain aspects of Harry's viewpoint get to me sometimes. Did we really need to hear about how Sarissa was astonishingly beautiful "even without makeup"? For that matter, does every woman in the books have to be stunningly gorgeous? *annoy* I suppose this one has a reason, at least, because it's the Faerie Courts and nearly everyone, male or female, is going to be beautiful, but it's a peeve with me and these books. Bear in mind that this is said from a place of love for the books and nearly everyone in them, but it's annoying to be hit with one of my peeves right off the bat.)
Anyway, I'm hoping that we don't spend too much time in the Winter Court before Harry gets his marching orders and gets out into the world. But having NEW DRESDEN is still a happymaking thing. \o/ And the Cat Sith has the potential to be a very fun new character. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a whole passel of new characters in this book, since he'll presumably be interacting with Winter Court denizens quite a bit.

Yes to Cat Sith being enjoyable and sounding vaguely familiar, but I'm not sure if it's a particular pair or just the general dynamic of "I'd kill you because you are annoying and I want to if I wasn't unfortunately sworn to obey you" which I'm sure I've seen before, I just can't think of where right now.
Yes to the annoying descriptions of women :(
I hope we get to see Fitz or Lily in the next chapter!

Mostly I'm just happy to have these characters back in my life again! I'm looking forward to seeing who turns up next.
