For those of you on Delicious: apparently it is now displaying user's real names (or whatever it thinks your real name is) alongside their pseudonyms.

I just deleted my account after skimming through the bookmarks and realizing that I don't actually care about anything I bookmarked anymore. It's all from old fandoms that I haven't been into in years, and half the links are dead anyway.

Anyway, just a heads-up.

Holy shit, they really do.

I still want those bookmarks. But I think I had them all exported to Diego or whatever that site was called. Gotta check, and then maybe delete my account. That's just not on.

They really do. I'd read that in another post on my flist, went and check and ... yup. And I haven't even used or thought about the account in ages ... so away it goes.

It's very frustrating when good sites go bad.

I know! I just don't think that they were thinking at all. It seems like more and more sites are going to a policy of linking user's real names to their pseudonyms, but that's not how a lot of people use the Internet!

I'm a little surprised they're only getting around to that now. A few years ago I stupidly created a Delicious account off my old Yahoo mail account, and luckily found out pretty quickly that anyone who knew me and had Yahoo mail (so, two people) would see every bookmark I made in their updates.

It's apparently impossible to believe you can be social without wanting everyone you've ever met to know everything about you. Thanks for that, Facebook.

Wow, that's really stupid.

And yeah. I am very frustrated with the current trend of sites trying to link ALL your online activity together. Shockingly enough, most people have different personas for, say, Great-Aunt Emma than for their friends -- in RL as well as online. I don't know why this is so hard for companies to understand.

In a way I guess it's good for all of us that we're forced to remember anonymity doesn't really exist and everything leaves a paper trail, rather than be surprised by it later on. It's just... very annoying.
