Fandom Appreciation Challenge: Day 1
This looks like fun: Fandom Appreciation Challenge 2012! On DW / On LJ. Quoting: The Fandom Appreciation Challenge is about giving feedback, reccing and interacting with other fen. ... The Fandom Appreciation Challenge runs for a week and consists of seven individual daily challenges AKA Day Challenges.
DAY 1: On your journal, rec three fanworks by people you don't know and whose works you haven't read/watched/listened to/looked at before.
This is made somewhat easier by having recently dipped my toe in a new fandom. *g*
Homestuck: Man Flu and Other Stories by emilyenrose - (misc pairings) Humans who get sick get hot drinks and painkillers. Trolls who get sick get culled. This causes some panic when Rose gets a cold. Adoooooorable! Also, poor trolls! (They're so freaked out, and none of the humans can figure out why ...)
Homestuck: To The Ear by Jalules - (Karkat/Jade) When you first meet the humans live and in person, the thing that really strikes you is their voices. I like stories that deal with human/troll culture clash, and this is a really cool little story about hearing spoken Earth language for the first time when the trolls are used to dealing with text.
And for something totally different ...
White Collar: Burnout by
augustbird - (Neal/Peter, Neal/OMC, WARNING: graphic non-con & torture) Reccing this feels a little bit like cheating, since I rec'd it a couple days ago on
whitecollar_rec; however, it fits the criteria just fine (don't know the author, haven't read anything else by the author), and I haven't rec'd it here, so ...! Like I said in my rec over there, this is the sort of thing that generally would not be my cup of tea, or at the very least the guiltiest of guilty pleasures -- Peter and Neal are held hostage by an enemy who forces Neal to have sex with him by hurting and threatening Peter. But what makes this story memorable and rec-worthy for me (well, in addition to the h/c button-pushing *g*), is the way the characters retain their cleverness, resilience and stubbornness rather than descending into woobie-ness, passing messages to each other and trying to plan their way out of the situation.
ETA: Damn, I did this wrong! *facepalm* Now that I'm looking at the comments to the Fandom Challenge entry, you're supposed to go find new fanworks and rec them, and this is all stuff I've read previously. Reading comprehension fail, self! Well, you guys get some recs anyway, so everybody wins (except me). :D
