Mememememe (also: cooking!)
I made bagels yesterday using this recipe (except I altered it a bit: let them rise quite a bit longer, and didn't put in that much salt) and they turned out good! Very chewy and tasty and bagel-y. And they're actually no more work than making bread (at least I didn't think so). The one ingredient I didn't have was malt sugar, so I just used a little molasses and honey (instead of sugar), and it gives them a really nice, subtle, flavorful sweetness. Gonna have to do that again. And next time I'll make more sesame-seed ones, because the plain ones are good, but the sesame ones are divine.

Name a fandom you know (that you think I know too!) and I'll tell you:
1. The first character I first fell in love with
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer
6. The character I would totallysmooch hug
7. The character I’d want to be like
8. The character I’d slap

10. A pairing that I despise
I altered #6, since fantasy kissing/sexing fictional characters doesn't do anything at all for me, but hugging them? That I could totally imagine. *g* Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think I'm not going to do #6 at all - it's too fourth-wall-breaking for me, for some reason. I'll still do the rest of it, though! :D
Anything I've written is fair game, of course, as well as anything I've watched (or read!) a lot of, now or in the past: i.e. Fringe, Community, Supernatural, Fullmetal Alchemist, Heroes, X-Men, etc.

Sokka. I was going to say "Sokka and Katara", but then I remembered that Katara had to grow a bit before I really started loving her wholeheartedly, although I loved their sibling dynamic from the beginning. But ... Sokka. Such a lovely blend of goofy and brave and smart. Training the village kids, and trying to be a man because all the men are gone, and that moment when he stands between the whole village and what is, for all he knows, an invading army -- oh, Sokka! He still had a lot of growing up to do (they all did), but he won my heart from the first.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
Aang, probably. "Chosen One" characters are so not my thing, and Aang's goodheartedness should have made him terribly saccharine. But then they went and made him such a convincing little kid, and allowed him his moments of pettiness and anger and fear along with the heroism. The whole package won me in the end.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t
Hmm. Possibly Azula. It's not that I don't get why people love her, but the dealbreaker for me is that she's so vile in her interpersonal relationships -- she treats the people who love her so terribly. I enjoyed her as a villain, but I don't think I could ever write her as a sympathetic protagonist.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
I don't know! Who do people hate? I remember encountering a certain amount of Katara-hate based on how she treated Zuko in the latter part of season three, which made me WTF a lot (he betrayed her! and almost killed her friends! I think her reaction was perfectly sensible!).
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer
I don't think there are any of these. I ended the series liking everyone just as much as I had in the beginning. Um, I guess about the closest thing to having a negative change of heart on any of the characters is that I hated the direction they went with Azula in the last episode, because, as noted above, I really loved her as a villain (there are so few truly cruel, unrepentant female villains in any medium) and I hated that they undermined that with her mental breakdown.
7. The character I’d want to be like
Kataaraaaaaaa. I love how she grows throughout the series, and balances her healer side and her warrior side. She is fierce and I love her.
8. The character I’d slap
Ohhhh, probably Zuko. Even though I adore him. But let's face it, sometimes that boy needs a smack.
9. A pairing that I love
Zuko/Mai really does it for me. EMO TEENS IN LOVE.
10. A pairing that I despise
Hmm. I don't actually despise any pairing on this show. I wasn't too fond of Zuko/Katara, though, because to me, adding a sexual element undermined the thing I loved most about their relationship in canon, which was that they had this twisty, complicated, love-hate thing that wasn't a precursor to a relationship. You get that with male characters a lot, but so very rarely between a man and a woman. Adding an element of attraction just turns it into yet another "she hates him, but eventually comes around and falls in love" romance.

Maiko is my fave ship too. And yes, Zuko often needs a smack to the back of the head.
Also, why is it that it's always the bad guys who go crazy? In the mirrorverse, I made sure Azula still had her psychotic break, because this idea that bad people go crazy because they're bad is really kind of disgusting.

1. The first character I first fell in love with
It's difficult to remember now, partly because it's been so long, and partly because I watched/read it completely out of order -- I caught random (horribly dubbed) episodes on TV, and then started buying the manga, or was it the other way around? Anyway, I remember really loving Kuririn/Krillen on the early TV eps that I saw, and loving Bulma in the manga (I am a huge sucker for "wrench wench" type characters).
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
Vegeta. I don't even recall when or why I started falling for him, but by the time I'd seen enough of the series to be actively fannish about it, he was one of my favorites. I started out thinking of him as little more than a bad guy, though.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t
Gohan, possibly. Adult Gohan, I mean. Since the majority of the fandom was so young, the teen characters from the later part of the series were hugely popular, but while I liked Gohan, I always found him a little bland.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
Yamcha. A lot of people hated him; I'm fairly sure the main reason was because he was a potential rival to the Bulma/Vegeta pairing, and canon itself didn't do him a whole lot of favors in the later part of the series, but I always liked him a lot.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer
... hmm. I can't think of any. Maybe Goku, a little bit. I liked him more when he was young; as an older character, some of his character traits were less appealing.
7. The character I’d want to be like
There is a lot about Bulma that I admire (her intelligence and spunk and stubbornness), but I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that I want to be like her.
8. The character I’d slap
Master Roshi. Oh my god. Someone slap him senseless, please!
9. A pairing that I love
Bulma/Vegeta
10. A pairing that I despise
I don't actually despise any of them, although Gohan/Piccolo (in fandom, I mean, not canon) weirded me out a bit because of the age difference and surrogate-parent vibe.

FK?
Re: FK?
1. The first character I first fell in love with
Wow, this is hard to answer because it's been so long since I saw the series for the first time! Probably Nick.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
Janette. I remember not liking her much when I first watched the series, but on the rewatch 10 years later, I thought she was wonderful.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t
Lacroix. In the dark/light split in FK fandom, I'm quite firmly on the light side. *g* It's not just that he's a vampire (Nick and Janette are vampires, and I quite like them!), but his controlling/abusive treatment of Nick I really can't abide, or at least don't seem to be capable of viewing in a positive light.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
I don't know if people hate Schanke, but he seems to be not all that popular. I adore him, though.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer
Hmm ... I don't think there are any characters I feel that way about.
7. The character I’d want to be like
Natalie. Though I don't want her love life. *g* But she's brave, smart, capable, compassionate, determined - I think I could do much worse than to emulate Nat.
8. The character I’d slap
Lacroix. I'd die horribly afterwards, of course, but it might actually be worth it.
9. A pairing that I love
Nick/Natalie
10. A pairing that I despise
Nick/Lacroix ... I know I'm terribly predictable here, but their dynamic in canon seems so unambiguously abusive that it baffles me that people ship them.
Re: FK?
With this, you cracked me up entirely! :-) Thanks for sharing!
(I agree about the UF (Lacroix/Nick) perspective. Celebrating a clearly abusive relationship baffles me no end... but of course the abuse isn't clear to them, by definition. They do not see what we see, as we don't see what they do. I used to know a Cousin (Lacroix fan) who insisted that every flashback where Lacroix did something that showed him in a bad light was Nick misremembering; she insisted that Nick was an unreliable source. But FK, unlike HL, never gave us any reason to suppose that its flashbacks weren't as objective and accurate as its present day.)

1. The first character I first fell in love with
Rose. I started watching Nu Who during the time that I was fanning very heavily on SGA, but starting to get frustrated and disillusioned with how SGA wrote female characters - or, rather, what kind of storylines they were allowed to have. And Rose was like a breath of fresh air: a female character who was openly sexual, who was funny and flawed and made mistakes, who was our viewpoint character on the world. I fell for her hard in the first two episodes.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
Rory. I didn't really bond with anybody for a lot of season five (which apparently makes me a total anomaly in fandom, I think!), and I just thought Rory was kind of funny-looking. Then I started really loving the way Arthur Darvill delivered his lines, and, um. Kind of loved him a lot by the end of the season.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t
Amy. She's one of those characters that I enjoy in combination with other characters (with Rory, with Eleven, with River) but not really on her own.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
Mickey, I think? Well, I don't get the impression that people hate him, just that he's sort of a nonentity in fandom, but he was one of my favorite characters from that era of the show.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer
... Rose. *facepalm* I adored her in season one, then became seriously disillusioned and unhappy with her in the second season. (There are a few other characters in Nu Who with whom I've had similar problems - River, Jack, Rory a little bit - but never such a harsh turnaround as happened with Rose.)
7. The character I’d want to be like
Most of the Companions, actually, but perhaps Donna most of all. I adore her down-to-earth attitude and the fact that she loves the Doctor but doesn't put up with any nonsense off him, rather than regarding him with the wide-eyed adoration that so many of the Companions do.
8. The character I’d slap
... I don't know! There have been some very slappable villains in some episodes. Sometimes it is quite tempting to slap Ten when he's being all ~GLOOM~ (though overall I quite like him).
9. A pairing that I love
Amy/Rory
10. A pairing that I despise
I don't really like Doctor/Companion pairings. I wouldn't say despise, but I am much more fond of the buddies-seeing-the-universe-together dynamic, rather than wanting romance in there.

1. The first character I first fell in love with
Astrid. It was basically love at first sight.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
Walter. Actually, in season one it took me awhile to connect to any of the main leads. I was more about the supporting characters (Astrid, Charlie, Broyles, Nina). But John Noble sells Walter so well. You hate the things he's done while wanting to wrap him in blankets and put him somewhere safe.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t
Lincoln. I just ... don't get the appeal.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
Hmm. Peter, maybe? At least he seems to be fairly unpopular in my flist neck of the woods.
5. The character I used to love but don’t any longer
I don't think there's anyone I feel this way about. Actually I seem to be loving them more and more as time goes on.
7. The character I’d want to be like
Astrid! She's so sane and grounded and normal, a breath of fresh air in the middle of all the weirdness. (Though Olivia's asskicking self is also quite appealing. And I appreciate Nina's unrelenting ruthlessness. This show has such inspiring women!)
8. The character I’d slap
Aside from the fact that it is completely impossible to want to slap Nimoy, I would say Bell. Smarmy bastard. Walter, at least, is trying to fix what he broke. Bell just skipped off and left everyone else to deal with all the shit that was left behind. Slapping the Observers also has a certain appeal.
9. A pairing that I love
... I don't actually have ship preferences for this show! Mostly I just like being taken along for the ride. (Although the episode a couple of weeks ago gave me a very odd craving for Walter/Fauxlivia.)
10. A pairing that I despise
I don't hate any of them. I have a very hard time getting on board with Peter/Olivia, though, because the show itself ships them so hard, which makes me obstinately want to not ship them, if that makes any sense.

Yeah, what made me start liking Lincoln, or at least come to terms with having him in the main cast, was when he started bonding rather cutely with Olivia and with Peter. I am not really interested in him on his own merits, but hey, he has nice chemistry with other people in the cast, so I'm down with that. Similar thing with Peter, I guess -- I did eventually start enjoying him on his own, but he was definitely the last of the core cast members that I bonded with, and I'm still a lot more interested in his scenes with Walter than just Peter off doing his own thing.
