Okay, I gotta admit, that is pretty cool

Fresh from the coop (and next to a regular white storebought egg for comparison):

Now I know at least two of them are laying, since the other eggs I've gotten have been brown.

I wasn't expecting them to lay at all this winter; I haven't been supplying extra light and wasn't really planning on it 'til launching them on their new career in February. On the other hand, if they feel like laying, I'm not going to complain about it.

Husband: "That's not a very big egg."
Me: "It's not a very big chicken, either."

How tough are the shells?
The large organic free range eggs I get features shells which are fairly
tough..........
It was totally different one time when I bought your run of the mill
half dozen. The eggs were huge, supposedly same large size as the organic, and the shells almost broke apart totally when I rapped them on side of a bowl
before dumping them in and scrambling them.

((((NODS)))))
I am frankly not surprised. Smaller and stronger shells....
I buy organic, cage free eggs...and really feel they are totally
different than the rest.
They are like I remember gathering when I was a kid for DGM or
when we spent time with our cousin who had a ranch in mountains of WA
Her hens hated me raiding their nests, but DGM were more forgiving.
Guess it is because they knew me.
They were of course all range free, cage free...........roosted in hen
house at night.
I really loved chickens.

What used to get me is how fast they would pull into the driveway and the way the hens all flew out of the way
Surprised they were not killed but none were ...........
I was around DGM enough and around cousins in the mountains
and so feel a closeness to farm/ranch life
I also remember how one of DGM's chickens followed me around......so funny
She would make the funniest clucking sounds as she did.

Also, to be fair, American eggs are scary as all hell. No offense or anything but pure white eggs are terrifying...

Oh cool! My dad keeps saying that 'fresh from under the chicken' eggs are even better than organic/free-range-farmstand.

Have a prezzie!

You need to get us pictures of them now that they're all grown up.
