So I can't help noticing ...

... that the DW journal import queue is alarmingly backed up; which isn't surprising since LJ's downtime has made a lot of people look into backing up, but I've had a journal import queued for over four hours and it still hasn't made any progress, while the queue continues to grow deeper. Has anyone done a successful import in the last couple of days? Should I abort and try again later?

ETA: As usual, the inevitable result of whining about something is that it works perfectly. *g* Import just finished; apparently it's just slow due to backlog. (I'm spoiled, I guess, because when I've done it before it hasn't been at peak times and it's been almost instant.) *pats poor overloaded DW*

Any hints on doing the import? I do have a dreamwidth journal but I don't use it much. But it seems a good idea to be backed up over there with all the stuff going on at LJ.

It'll walk you through the process; basically you give it your Livejournal name and password, and it asks you what you want to import (I usually do journal entries and comments), and then it takes you to a page where it shows you the status of your import request until it's done.

Oh, cool, thank you! I knew there was a way but I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. I guess I should wait a day or two until things calm down to import stuff to DW.

Gawd I'm stupid. Didn't occured to me before now that I could do just userpics. Took less than five minutes to que and finish importing 171 userpics.

Hee! Yeah, that would work. :D (I can't import my userpics because I have more in my LJ than my DW account allows for, so I have to do 'em by hand.)

Yeah ... it's not really LJ's fault because they're currently under assault by hackers, but it's been very verrrrrry slow and flaky lately.

Ooh, does the comment import work, i.e. does it simply add the lj comments to the DW ones?

Yep, it does! (Well, not right NOW, because of the backlog -- my attempt yesterday timed out -- but usually.) I've used it several times and that's exactly what it does.
