Oh, wonderful!

There was a book I read years ago, and then turned in to the used book store for trade credit, that I think of as the Worst Book Ever (or possibly just the crackiest). I have tried to describe this book to people occasionally, but I couldn't remember the name or author. Luckily, the nice people at whatwasthatbook found it for me! :D Now I can buy another copy and inflict it on people anew!

This review gives a pretty accurate idea of what the experience of reading the book is like -- you just want to keep turning the pages to see what else the author has decided to cram in there. (The sudden! surprise! telepathy! that only showed up when they had to communicate with people whose language they didn't speak was possibly my favorite thing, but there is so much more WTF in this book that even the review barely scratches the surface of it. I'd completely forgotten about the Aboriginal Spirit Guide (TM). And the dinosaurs!)

*nods* I was delighted to discover it! Though it has a tendency to flood one's flist -- I think probably because it's moderated and the mods only release posts from the queue occasionally, so there will be nothing and nothing and then suddenly your entire flist is full of posts. Which is why I have it filtered off my main reading filter. XD But it's really marvelous -- this is the first time I've used it, and I got an answer almost immediately!

I KNOW, RIGHT?!

The review doesn't even mention some of the most WTF parts, like the way that the subterranean people make all their tools and weapons and artifacts out of solid diamond! They do this by rubbing it with mold that causes the diamond to become all squishy so it can be molded like putty. I AM NOT JOKING, THIS IS ACTUALLY IN THE BOOK. XD

OMG, I read that not too long ago! It was just pure pro crack-fic. And would probably make a great made for syfy movie.

hahahaha, you did? It's nice to know I'm not the only one who's ever read it! And yeah, it does kind of read like a syfy movie! Or maybe five or six of them all squished together. It was definitely one of those "so bad it's good" kind of things; I always regretted trading it back to the bookstore, because I could never find it again.

I remember thinking it reminded me a little of SGA...at least with the ancient civilization in Anarctica, and the telepathy, and one of the military men being descended from those people...but like I said, pro crackfic.

Ohhh! Thank you for the info about the bookfinding comm! There's a couple of books I read when I was a kid that I'd love to be able to find again.

It's really fantastic, just like a storyfinding comm but for books! :D Though like I mentioned in the comments above, it does tend to flood your flist periodically. I had wondered why until I posted to it and discovered it was moderated, so I'm pretty sure that happens when they release stuff from the queue.
