Soooo apparently LJ is now set by default to screen "non-friend comments with links". At least, mine was. If you'd like to change this, you can go here to do so: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?cat=privacy

On the bright(er) side, it's actually kind of nice to have that option if you get a lot of spam. On the not-so-bright side, it seems to be mutually exclusive with other comment screening settings; I'm pretty sure I used to have mine set to screen anonymous comments due to spammers and trolls (at least, I don't remember changing that), and now it's screening non-friend comments instead, which is ... not the same!

My setting has remained at screening anon comments, so this new option didn't change it for me.

Another person said so too, so it's possible that I had actually changed it back and didn't remember doing so.

OK, this explains why a comment I just left elsewhere was screened -- I wondered if I'd been MARKED UNSAFE by that person, or if it was something about ESPN ...

Yeah. Probably. It confused the heck out of me why someone's comment got screened in my journal, since I didn't think my settings were such - 'til I had a vague recollection of some post on my flist talking about LJ having changed the screening settings. And so they had.

Only if they have a link in them. I think it's an anti-spam measure, but it's kind of startling if you don't expect it.

My LJ also changed to default "screen non-friend comments with links" btw. I am pretty sure it was set to "don't screen comments".

Mine changed to that from just screening anon comments, so it's not just you!

At least it's not just me! But that's weird that it's only doing it for some people and not others. I guess we're just lucky. :D

Well, I think it's an anti-spam thing, and you can turn it off. But, yeah, it's annoying, and it makes people look suspicious of their friends when they're totally not!
