SGA Secret Santa fic is killliiiing meeeeeeeeee. And I can't whine about it in more detail because of, well, the secret part. But I'm starting to feel like this is the fic that never ends, it just goes on and on, my friends ...
Big Bang stories read so far:
A Wing and a Prayer by
kriadydragon - (gen, 97K words)
AU in which Milky Way people ride dragons, and Pegasus Galaxy people ride griffins. I went into it kind of wary about the premise, and then ended up really, really enjoying it -- there's solid worldbuilding (though I admit that I still had a few questions about how the dragon-enabled version of Earth would work, but not really moreso than, say, Temeraire) and some breathtaking action sequences. John's at the center of the story, but all the teammates get a good role.
Whipping Boy by
skinscript - (gen, 45K words)
This is so totally not what I was expecting -- and I mean that in a good way! The title and the fact that it's a slavefic scenario led me to expect massive woobification; in reality, though, it's an interesting and twisty sci-fi fic, focused on Sheppard, McKay, Lorne, Parrish and a group of OC soldiers that I ended up liking very much. Having enjoyed it a lot, I'm kind of worried that people will avoid it because of misconceptions of what it's about (which is what I almost did -- I clicked on it because I wanted a Rodney story, and was very pleasantly surprised that it wasn't what I'd guessed from the title).
Children of the Abyss by
writerjc - (gen, 40K words)
This one is a nice solid team adventure fic, pretty much in the style of an actual episode. Everyone gets something to do, and it has the "sense of wonder, exploring the galaxy" feeling that originally drew me to the series.
Obviously I'm working my way through the gen section. :) I'll start hitting the pairings a little later.

I hear you, I hear you! Although in my case, it's not so much that it's growing as it's just not getting written! Still, I'm feeling a little better this week than last (stupid cold thing), so maybe I'll manage to get on with it!
I've only read one of the Big Bang gen fics so far, 'A Wing and a Prayer'. I started with that because, although I knew it would be John-centric, I know that when kriadydragon writes team she writes them well, and although I've never wanted to read original fic with dragons in (sorry, Anne McCaffrey fans), I do have a soft spot for SGA dragon stories!!
Whipping Boy, although being Rodney-centric, wasn't next on my list as I was concerned about content. Don't get me wrong, I love whumped woobie Rodney (I've written whumped woobie Rodney!), I just get a little worried about slavefic sometimes. It has now gone to the top of the list thanks to your comments! Though maybe not today, 'cos, you know, Secret Santa fic is getting urgent - but I wanna read it now!! *stamps foot*!!!

LOL! Mine too... now I'm worried that I'll get a 1000 word short-fic in exchange for my 15-20k mega-epic :o
I tried to read through some of those Big Bang fics, but none are my thing (I like Rodney-centric gen or het fics, with lots (and lots) of Rodney whumping) Too much AU and McShep for my tastes. Alas, I came too late to LJ to join in, otherwise I would probably have written one like *that* as my entry.

Hee! I'm not too worried about that; the minimum is 1000 words, so if I go above and beyond that, it would be awfully petty of me to be bothered if the other person doesn't also go above and beyond. There are going to be lots of fic to read, after all.
Regarding Big Bang -- it did skew noticeably in a non-Rodney direction this year, though so far all the team and/or John fics that I've read have given him a pretty good role. (I'm fairly easygoing in that area; though I do lean a bit more heavily in a Rodney direction if I *had* to choose, in fics I'll go for Rodney, or John, or team, or just the women, or whatever I'm in the mood for that day.) Still, I find fannish tastes and trends interesting. This year was pretty heavily focused on John in both the gen and the other-pairings area.

Anyway, this sounds really interesting, it goes to the top of the reading queue.
But I'm starting to feel like this is the fic that never ends, it just goes on and on, my friends ...
That sounds... rather intriguing, I admit.

Friendshipper started writing it, not knowing what it was, and then she kept on writing it forever, just because...
Ahem. Thanks for the big bang recs! I'd actually managed to miss hearing anything about it until you posted this! Not keen on dragon AUs, but I've read all of the other gen stuff now - they're really good. 'Whipping Boy' was my favourite, I'm really glad I didn't miss out on getting to read these :D
