NCIS & NCIS:LA
NCIS is totally my fannish happy place this season. It would be even more of a fannish happy place if there was any sort of fic for what I want to read (McGee and Tony! having buddy adventures!) but despite the lack, fic always takes a backseat to canon for me and canon is delivering in a major way, so I'm very happy. I mean like, rewatching-certain-scenes-in-the-premiere-a-half-dozen-times happy. *glows* (They're friends! And they hang out together! And Tony told Terrorist Guy** how he really thinks of McGee, basically praised him, twice!, with Tim right there in the room listening! Truth serum FTW! \o/)
** Okay, I'm steadfastly not thinking about Terrorist Guy too hard, but it's NCIS and they've certainly failed WORSE in the past; this is just ordinary levels of fail for them.
I was disappointed with the fast and anticlimactic ending of 7x01 (also rather amused at the show apparently running out of budget for the climactic gun battle, so we just got a shot of the door and some f/x of screaming and gunfire off-camera!), but it was nice to see some of the fallout dealt with in the next episode. I'm happy to have Ziva back but I hope this won't mean an end to all the Tony-McGee interaction we've been getting. Actually, in general, my biggest wish for this season is that it'll have lots of ALL the characters in various combinations, not just Tony-Gibbs or Tony-Ziva. When was the last time we got a good Ducky-Gibbs scene? Or saw Abby and Ducky together? Basically, guys, just remember that you have an ensemble this year, and we'll be groovy. :D
The first episode of NCIS:LA didn't really grab me too hard, but by the end of the second one, I think this one's gonna be a keeper for this season at least. I still don't feel that the cast, as a whole, has the same sparkle as the NCIS cast, and I'm really bothered (moreso than I realized I would be) by this show's weakness in the female-characters department (though I like the female coroner(?), and agree with
naye that it's lovely to see an older woman in a leadership role!).
Having said that, SAAAAAAAM omfg *sparkle sparkle sparkle*. This can just be the LL Cool J show and I won't complain a bit. I think he hits all my Dean Winchester buttons -- drop-dead gorgeous (those eyes! that smile! weeeee!) and hyper-competent with weapons, neat sense of humor, vulnerable just when you least expect it. And even though Callen, as a character, interests me not at all, his partnership with Sam is cute as hell. (Sam's little wink in the ops room in the first episode ... *flails*) Yeah, I may be about as shallow as a puddle here. I also think Psychologist Guy and Coroner Girl are cute together, and Newbie Guy is pretty adorable too. (Maybe eventually I'll remember everyone's names.) Hettie, I think, I like more as a concept than an actual character, but we'll see how she develops; I think I'm influenced by having seen the actress in more over-the-top roles and so I'm having trouble thinking of her as the leader of an NCIS unit. At least she's not 29 and blonde, though! And the female field agent, I'm reserving judgment on; I have yet to see much sign of a distinct personality or individual relationships with her teammates, but she and Newbie Guy were pretty fun to watch and I hope they develop her a bit more. The computer guy I'm kind of bleh about; I think, again, there's just not much personality there, but we're only two episodes in, so we'll see.
In conclusion, SAM. ♥ ♥ ♥ (Standing up in the duck pond at the end of 1x02! Oh my god, Sam, could you get any more awesome.)

I've been happy with NCIS this season too :-)
I don't remember if I've recced you these, but this (http://ygrawn.livejournal.com/25556.html) is a great NCIS post S6 finale fic, long and loving with a little Ziva/Tony and a lot of Ziva/Gibbs/Team friendship, and this (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5199196/1/Volatile_Compounds) is a really really awesome SPN crossover I read today.

And thank you for the recs!

I'm giving L.A time to figure out what type of show it wants to be, but I will say this. I love Sam and Callen...and I like the shrink a bit too and adore Linda Hunt.(Hope they do more with her)
I can't believe I'm saying this, but if you find any good slash fics on L.A, could you post them? I love the buddy and yet, not stuff they have going in the show. Some of it isn't even subtle, but for some reasons it’s kind of charming.

You know me, I don't watch TV through slash goggles, but I swear to god they're deliberately playing Sam and Callen with a flirty vibe. If they were male and female, they certainly would be; it's at least as overt as any of the Tony/Ziva interaction from the last couple years of NCIS!

As for NCIS LA, I just can't stand the way they're handling the female characters. Why is it that a woman in charge either has to be a b-ach or incompetent mess or mary sueish or men in women's bodies? Women can be women and still be excellent leaders, people!!! Just, ack. I can't watch the show without getting annoyed. They should take some pointers from shows like The Mentalist and Psych.

Having said that, between Jenny (on the original NCIS) and Hetty, I definitely prefer Hetty.
NCIS - I'm really not on board with Tony/Ziva as a pairing, and I'm glad they don't seem to be going in that direction (and hope to high heaven that they don't plan on dancing around it all season like they did last season). So far I'm really liking the trend this season to pair up the characters in different combinations, and I very much hope it continues!

sorry, I've been very distracted lately. Hope you like!

YESSSSSSSS~! *joins you in the Sam-love so hard*
(I'm enjoying the show more than I might mainly 'cuz I'm watching it with a major LL Cool J-fangirl, who is very happy I share the love. But really, how could you not? he wields the living embodiment of a "light-up-the-room-smile", guy wouldn't need a flashlight in a dark airplane hangar! also that body, man...)
(also his & Callen's slashiness has reached epic levels by, like, what, the 2nd ep? I expect fic, fandom! *taps foot*)
Love Hettie myself, but I actually hadn't seen Linda Hunt before so am not biased. Also am fond of Psychologist-guy (is he Nate? or am I getting confused with Leverage?) because male psych-profilers are less common on TV. And the other agensts have potential (at least there's one woman there!) so...
Re: whee~!
I think it is funny that both my husband and I started to watch it because fo LL. Cool J! :D
The psych guy Is Nate, because after Sam and Callen, I enjoyed him a lot as well. If they five Hettie some more face time over the season I'll be in love! :-P
Re: whee~!
Hee! Something for everyone! I didn't really know him before this (knew his name but hadn't seen him, really) but I can see your point ^^
Re: whee~!

*laughs* I know -- like I said above, you know me and I'm not generally a viewer who sees slash in canon even when I'm reading it in fic, but in this case? I swear they're playing up a flirty vibe, and I don't think it's all in my head!
In any case, if fandom doesn't go for Callen/Sam as the main slash pairing, I'm going to be -- well, I don't know if I'd be entirely shocked, but very very disappointed with fandom for living down to my worst expectatations. *taps foot and waits with you* (YOU could write it, you know! *nudges*)

*laughs* But I don't write slash from scratch; I need someone else to break the ice! And right now I'm not really feeling Callen enough to attempt him...
NCIS has never gotten a major fic following despite everyone watching it, curious if N:LA will...

Haven't seen the second LA ep yet. The first one was okay. Enough to keep me watching, but it didn't grab me. Callen does nothing for me; they're playing up his tragic past too much IMHO. I'm getting a woobie vibe. Sam is very easy on the eyes indeed. :) Haven't formed an opinion beyond that. I much liked the female cop in the NCIS pilot, but here I thought we didn't get to see enough of her. Well, it's still early. I'll definitely give them a few eps to develop the characters.
I adored Linda Hunt, though. Possibly because she reminded me so much of that character in The Incredibles (which has be be based on her).

NCIS:LA -- I don't get much from Callen, either. I feel as if the show is trying too hard to make us like him without giving us any compelling reasons to do so. In general, the NCIS:LA cast aren't as fun and quirky as I like my characters to be ... though they're starting to have small hints of it.

hahahaha -- that's the character of hers that I keep flashing on! I've seen her in several different things, but I couldn't quite pinpoint what it is that my mind kept jumping to whenever she was onscreen, and I think that's it! Though I don't know if knowing that is going to make it harder or easier to watch her ...!

I agree that the cast hasn't quite gelled yet but that should come (cast changes wouldn't surprise me though). The other minor quibble I have is that as someone pointed out, if they took "NCIS" out of the title, it would make no difference to the show. I think they need to give it a stronger identity.
But then NCIS got stronger with each season so it's very early days ;)

NCIS LA - yeah, I like Sam. :) And yeah, like you I find myself a lot more bothered by the lack of a strong female presence than I thought I would be, and also by the lack of a definite command structure. I think the show has some bugs to work out - it has possibilities, especially in the relationship between Sam and Callen - but I think there's a lot that could be improved. Their pushing of poor woobie Callen last week was way OTT, IMO at least. So far they're telling us too much instead of showing us. Subtlety is your friend, writers.

But I really like Callen because Sam likes Callen, and I absolutely adore the way the two of them relate to each other. Sam's SMILE!! ♥ Awww~!
NCIS continues to be a happy-but-not-fannish show for me - I really, really appreciate that they have all these different constellations with men and women and younger and older and all of them agree on what's important: team. And there are hugs! And fond ribbing and serious stuff and. It's just been making me happy for the 40 minutes a week I spend on it.
ETA: Oops. Sometimes an "almost" can make a big difference in what you're trying to say...! XD

I need more Ducky and Abby time but I'm glad that Tony is now calling McGee McSidekick. I HATED Probie!
no subject
LOL ... I think I didn't mind it so much because they made a point in an earlier season of the fact that Gibbs' former mentor still calls him "Probie". It is affectionate. Having said that, I do get frustrated at times with the one-sidedness of Tony's mocking of Tim. I'm not usually a person who flies off the handle getting protective of my favorite characters (I never saw anything mean or cruel in the way Rodney's friends treated him on SGA, for example, even though I know some fans did) but I just wish Tim got him back more often.
