Writercon plans

Okay, the less I enjoy the last couple months of my job, the more I've swung around to thinking very, very seriously about going to Writercon. Like, I'm pretty much in the "firming up plans and then buying tickets" stage. (If I haven't changed my mind in the next couple of days, and if I can make plans with a couple of Midwestern friends to meet up in the following week so that I'm not just turning around and flying right back to Alaska, I am *totally* doing it.)

So who all is going? I know greyias and sgatazmy ... and astridv maybe? Anyone else?

One thing to know is that the workshop signups close on the 30th, so if you are interested in any of them you should jump on that. There's also a comm, writercon, where planning and test balloons for fan-led events are posted.

I'm new to fandom in general and fanfic in particular (like, since-November-2008 new), yet there's a chance I'll end up running a better-beta thingy, because they hadn't found anyone else to run the prospective workshop and I mentioned wanting something like that. This is so weird! Anyway, here's hoping we meet!

Well, actually, it turns out I'm just a ditz. They don't. Fan-led events must be submitted by the 30th; workshop registrations don't appear to have a close date and are just first-come for the restricted-attendance ones. Sorry to panic you any! Good luck with your decision, whichever it may be.

Also, something *just* occurred to me as I was looking over the panels and workshops on the website. They are asking for submissions for fan-led panels/workshops/etc until the 30th. We could do an h/c panel! :D! :D? :D?

We should *totally* request to run one; we may not get it, but we can always try!

My only problem is when; I was looking at the slots for fan-led workshops/panels and they're all opposite something I really wanted to go to! I imagine the whole day is probably like that, though ...

Oh dang, I didn't realize those slots were up against other programming *wibbles* I really want to go to the Martha Wells workshop/panel that one of them is up against. Or does it have to be at the same time the other programming is going on I wonder?

I know! All of the panels look like a lot of fun, and I'd probably get at least a little something out of any of them.

I know! I really wanted to go to the Martha Wells one, too -- but the next slot has not just one but *two* different programming options that I wanted to go to!

I have to remind myself not to sign up for every single writing workshop at the con. I imagine that after a couple of days of it, I'll be so workshopped and paneled to death that I'll be ready to flop in a corner for a while.

You should try out mediawest*Con next year. Tons of fanfic, lots of panels.

Well, most of the appeal of this specific con for me is that it's writer-focused; I actually don't get a whole lot out of cons in general (though I'm thinking wistfully about how *close* I'm gonna be to the Chicago creation con -- but not close enough, alas!).

well, if you ever get time/money, MWC is a great place to go. alas, i'm not THAT close to the Chicago con. It's soooo tempting, until I think of bills that need paid. blast.

I'll be there! fun could be had. HULU will have 10 more episodes sga, either from season 5 or 1 depending on where they are in the rota, we can watch and mock and laugh. :)

hmmm, I don't know if I'm up for watching episodes right now (I'm still too bitter) but I'm thinking much fangirl fun will be had by all! :D
