Hee. I can handwave science up to a point (I mean, one of my earliest tv memories is watching Trek around age 4) but this movie definitely pushed past that point. Ultimately, I was more cranky at how terrible and mostly holes the plot was than the science. I think it's that...TOS was campy and had terrible effects and stuff, but the stories ALWAYS had heart and always had a point and this movie seemed to sacrifice that backbone characteristic of what Trek was in exchange for shiny special effects and campy humor and that's not why I watch Sci-Fi (yes, I just said that as a gateverse fan, I see the irony)

(uh, yeah. I was very meh about it when I left the theater (I loved Kirk's dad and I loved Nimony's voice-over at the end and...um...) but the longer I think about it, and the more squee-filled posts I read, the more I hate it. I'm backing away from LJ before I tip over and become That Fan who runs around harshing everyone's squee. I figure in a few weeks Star Trek will stop being every other post on my flist. Feel free to come around to my review post or not if you like - it's not terribly positive and no reason for other people to not enjoy what makes them happy)
