New fic comm

sga_details_fic is a new challenge/fic community for stories inspired by the little details in the episodes. From the userinfo:

1) Watch an SGA episode (I know, I know, rough assignment but you’ll muddle through somehow).
2) Find some small detail that comes out about a character or the city or anything really.
3) Use that as the inspiration/focal point of a fic.
4) Post that glorious creation here for all to read and enjoy.

Gen or any sort of pairing-fic (het or slash) are accepted, for any episodes up to 5x01 (which is on tonight, so here's hoping lots of people watch it and the ratings go through the roof!).

And, while I'm mentioning comms, once which doesn't seem to get any love is sgahcchallenges. It's a gen-only, h/c challenge community. Generally I've found the challenges over there too restrictive to spark my creativity. (I notice, though, looking at the userinfo now, that they've upped the maximum word count from 4000 words -- which is good! because that was always one of the big things that stopped me from trying to write something for it ... I KNOW I can't stop at 4000.) But I wanted to mention that it exists, anyway, and maybe it just needs an influx of new writers. Or something.

I'm flailing around somewhat at the idea that our Big Bang fic is, well, mostly done -- my part in it basically is done, and suddenly I can start looking at some of the other ideas (original and fanfic) that I've been putting to one side for the last few months. The only other fic commitment that I have right now is my fic for livelongnmarry (which is still going on, by the way!).

Huh. Seems to me like there's quite an overlap between sga_details_fic and sga_episodefic...? Though it's intriguing to focus specifically on the little details that would otherwise escape our notice, I guess!

I thought sga_episodefic was a recs community. *checks* ... huh. Apparently it's not, and they're having an S&R challenge too. Oh hi! I'm dumb. XD

There are really a bewildering variety of comms for SGA. sheps_atlantis also has weekly episode tag challenges; I tend to avoid them on general principles -- writing for them, at least -- because they only allow gen and het, and ... okay. I can see just having gen. I can see restricting yourself to a certain pairing, or excluding a pairing, or having an all-slash or all-het community. But ... allowing everything but slash is pretty pointed, I think, and I'm not comfortable with it.

sga_episodefic collects everything episode-related. Recs are welcome, but plenty of people post their fics to the community, or link to new fics from the comm. And like you saw, they've got challenges and tag-a-thons, too. Of course, the only reason I know this is because I'm friends with the mods. *g* There's just too many comms to keep track of out there!

Like - uh. Okay, yeah, the NO SLASH I find unnecessarily hostile, when other pairings are welcome.

Ah, I see! I hadn't realized that. sga_episodefic is on my watch list, but I've got most of my communities on one filter and some of them are so high-traffic that I don't check that filter very often. So I never noticed that! *headdesk*

sga_details_fic has a pretty specific slant to it; maybe that will be enough to distinguish them -- I hope?

Re: the slash thing -- yes, exactly. There's a small and subjective, but critical, difference between "Yay! Gen!" and "Eww! Slash!" The one, basically describes me; the other, I find very discomfort-making.

4,000 words? Wow, that's a low limit...(*very glad flashfic has no such thing, I'd never have anything to post!*) Good they changed it.

*whistles innocently* Done and even beta'd! I took a couple days off from Big Bang and wrote it in June because I was having trouble concentrating on anything else ...
