Livejournal question

Help, help. Can anyone who is wise in the ways of LJ-fu tell me how to set my preferences so that I'll get the HTML/plain text editor rather than the rich text editor when I post an entry? I've never had to do that before, because when I signed up for my other accounts (which was 3 or 4 years ago) the rich text editor wasn't even an option, and it's stayed defaulted to the other. However, the rich text editor seems to be the default now, and I can't figure out how to switch it for my new account. Going nuts! Help!

EDIT: Restarting the browser seems to have stopped the format switching and gotten it to stay on the last one I used. How odd. Thanks for the comments, everyone!

EDIT2, SON OF EDIT: This has nothing to do with the above, but a very handy little tip I got from [livejournal.com profile] dossier to get rid of those mega-annoying "SNAP" pop-ups over links --
go to http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/ and uncheck "Enable graphic previews on external links within your journal" to make 'em go away. That had been driving me MAD and I thought it might help someone else.

EDIT3, EDIT FROM THE BLACK LAGOON: And to get rid of the pop-ups on your friendlist, instructions are here: http://spacecowb0y.livejournal.com/281574.html (hat tip to [livejournal.com profile] dossier and [livejournal.com profile] abyssinia4077)

When you post the entry, you'll see two tabs at the top right corner; one's for rich text, the other's for HTML.

---Really? Once I switch mine, that's it; it remembers that I want it as HTML and doesn't switch back unless I manually switch it.

t might have something to do with which viewing style you have as default.

If you have "Horizon" or "Vertigo" as default, then I think the rich text editor *stabs it* is automatically loaded when you write a post.

I have good old "XColibur" and HTML defaults for me.

You can change your preferences here (http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?view=schemes), as they don't appear as options on the regular manage settings page.

Hope that works!

I'd gotten the impression that it just remembered my last choice - if I ever use the rich text editor, I'll have to reset it to HTML when I post my next entry. I don't know what else it could be - I'm used to getting the HTML automatically, but then again, I've been using my LJ for years now...

on the snap thing: that gets rid of them to your journal - so they'll still be on your flist.

Go here for instructions on how to never see them ever on anyone else's journal (I think I knelt down in gratitude when I found this): http://spacecowb0y.livejournal.com/281574.html

I'd never heard of Adblock but I hate those snap things so much I downloaded it just so I could use it here.

What really baffles me is why ANYONE at LJ thought it would be a good idea to do this in the first place!

I know! I haven't seen a single user say anything good about it. Makes me wonder: if they make a new feature and everyone HATES it, can we get them to remove it?

God, thank you! Those pop up thingies were driving me crackers (tacit assent should be banned. seriously)

I actually managed to turn them off within the stupid thing themselves yesterday. There's a tiny little option, a button in the top hand corner of the previews that says "disable" (I think... I turned them off and I'm not willing to turn them back on for sake of clarity). It then brings up this sad, guilt-inducing message "Do you really want to send me away? :( ", and when you tell it "YES!", they disappear. They haven't showed up for me on two computers, so it might be an alternative to those who don't use AdBlock.
