GLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

SGA is coming back for a 5th season! So says Variety (and it's up on the SciFi Channel's website too).

... and the ratings they give for SGA in the Variety are much higher than the ones we've been seeing elsewhere -- 1.8, which is better than the latter part of last year! And this is despite Flash Gordon being its lead-in with lower ratings. And it was premiering against the fall shows for the first time, too!

I noticed that, too. Maybe because that also factors in people who are tivo/dvring the show? Because those numbers are starting to skyrocket and they're a whole lot easier to use, because there's no guess-work involved, it's hard data from cable, satellite, and tivo.

That was the best thing about getting up this morning. Seeing that as one of the first items on the flist.
YAY!!!!!

I think it was the cast's very first San Diego Comic Con. 4 seasons ago! ;)

I agree with Rodney! And also, I want to do a happy dance of JOY!

Congratulations to the cast & crew - they've definitely deserved this one!

(Though I'm not exactly sad on my own behalf or anything - I just got into the show, and it is STILL ALIVE! Happy, happy day! ♥)

Thank you for sharing the news!

It is! They have! And now they all have work for another year, to feed all those new babies and tiny dogs and all! ♥

I know! I was... I've been there before, when things seem fine, and then you get the rug pulled from under you by the network. And while it didn't really seem like SGA was heading that way (it's SciFi's flagship SF show), you never know what the numbers and figures are going to decide in the end. They have no compassion, and no sense for wonderfully fun tv that deserves to go on for at least another year...

This is going to make me smile all week, and I definitely feel much better now that I know that the cliffhanger will be resolved, and that we won't lose any actors to too-long hiatus weirdness or anything like that. (Save our show campaigns can work, but even if they do work, sometimes they're too slow to save it from the brutal forces of showbiz reality.)

Yeah - I still remember Farscape, even though I wasn't in the fandom. I actually just found an old SFX magazine with an article "Farscape Gets Five", after Sci-Fi announced that they'd give it another two seasons, and... of course it's hard to have faith, after that. And Invisible Man, too! I didn't realize that was Sci-Fi. And recently they cancelled Dresden Files - of course, that was after airing it in the wrong order and probably not getting the best ratings, but I still know people who are really disappointed by that... That Sci-Fi tends to have more reasons than other networks for cancelling their shows (Farscape became too expensive, etc) doesn't help much when it's your show being targeted by those reasons!

Knowing that it was cancelled would have cast a pall over the rest of the season, which would have been a shame since it's shaping up to be very good.

I know! It's going to be so much fun watching, knowing that this isn't all we're getting, that the actors still have their jobs, and that the cliffhanger won't dangle endlessly! I feel like I can finally let out a breath I've been holding since before I even got into the fandom. ♥

Two more days! *bounces*

Yay! Makes me wonder, though, how much better the ratings might have been without that oh-so-awful lead-in. :D

W00t! Is all that needs to be said. It may have taken me a few years but I definitely picked a good time to get on board this fandom XD

[identity profile] parisntripfan.livejournal.com 2007-10-24 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, it is not Atlantis related, but it fits my mood.

YEAAAAAA!!!

As for the numbers, I think that Joe M's 1.4 gave is the "share" - the percent of households watching the show,(I am not sure if is the number of total households or the number currently watching TV) the 1.8 million, is the raw number of people watching.

I'm SO happy! I was pretty worried, because Sci Fi Channel has seemed so STUPID these last few years, what with the wrestling, and the Flush Gordon, canceling SG-1, and scheduling SGA opposite Numb3rs and TOM SELLECK on Las Vegas. I now don't have to feel guilty if I'm watching those other shows and taping SGA. Not that I'm a Nielsen family anyway, so it didn't matter. I just felt bad not watching SGA live if I was home. (g)

This has put a wonderful cap on an otherwise stressful and super-busy day. YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

[identity profile] cetpar.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, excellent! I saw the links to Variety earlier, but I was waiting for official news. I didn't realize that it was up on scifi.com, too.

YAY!!!

[identity profile] derry667.livejournal.com 2007-10-25 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
YES!!!

I just read the news over on [livejournal.com profile] mcalex22's LJ and had to rush over here and find out if you knew already! Coz I know that you've been worried.

Of course, I expect the whole world except me knows already. Not exactly had my finger on the pulse when it comes to fandom news lately. LOL!

But anyway... Numfar! Do the dance of joy! ;-D

[identity profile] beckiezra.livejournal.com 2007-10-28 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry, the icon is the wrong expression for this news, but it's the only SGA one I have (so I guess I need to do something about that). I'm a little late to the party but thanks for sharing this info. I've been mostly avoiding SGA related sites because I wanted to see how much more I could enjoy the season without knowing every storyline beforehand like last year.

I was starting to resign myself to another show lost whenever I'd see stuff about the numbers. I'm glad they are taking more into account than just the raw data or whatever. To be doing almost as well as before (or maybe as well or better, I guess I'd need to look at the numbers from the same sources/calculated in the same ways to really know what they mean) when competing against new network shows and such deserves the reward of another season.

I'm actually starting to wonder how things are going to work this year since the entire season is already taped, are we getting 20 in a row or will it kind of follow most networks with a holiday break and new again in the new year or maybe making us wait to end in May. Hrm, maybe it won't hurt to peak at websites a little more...
