Shiva the Destroyer strikes again

Shiva is our cat. He is named for his habit of, well, destroying stuff. I've seriously lost count of how many pairs of my headphones he's eaten. (I always use headphones for listening to music or watching DVDs at the computer so as not to bother other people in the house.) For a while, I put a stop to that by locking them up in my desk drawer at night, but I kept forgetting to put them away -- which is how the last couple of pairs died; it only took one night of forgetting to wake up to a discombobulated pair of headphones. Eventually, I started taking the easier method of putting a pile of books on top of them and tucking the cord under the keyboard when I'd walk away from the computer. The back of my computer, where the headphone jack plugs in, is a little difficult to reach, but there are always lots of books around my work surface, which made this much easier than having to detach it every time.

This worked great until I got up this morning and found that the little bastard had finally caught on. He'd teased the cord out from under the keyboard (things were all shifted around) and, yep, chewed the bejeezus out of it.

*sigh* Guess I'll be getting another pair of $4 headphones from Fred Meyer after work today. Has anybody on my flist tried using cordless headphones? Do they work well? It's the cords that he always destroys ... he likes to dangle the headphones off the desk and attack the cord until he "kills" it.

Oh, boy. He's one technic-hungry cat. ;o)

Yes, I have used cordless headphones, and I love them to death. The ones I had were big (though not ugly and not looking like ear-muffs) and comfy and had very good sound quality unless you were on the other side of the house. But then, that's not what you wanted them for, right?

My little darlings don't get to be in the room with the computers when we're not. When I got to bed they get chased out of here and the door shut. So they go downstairs and scrag the sofa/carpet instead!

LOL! From what little cat-sitting I've done and the friends who have cats (not to mention all those books I've devoured by cat owners) me thinks it is very clear that no human is *ever* in charge when there's a cat in the house! They might be kind enough to let you *think* that you are, but when the chips (or headphones in this case!) are down... humans don't stand a chance!!!

(Btw, I watched a programme years ago and this woman had cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs etc. The hierarchy had the cats firmly at the top - and the dogs very much at the bottom (*after* the rabbits etc)!!! Hmm...)

Cats can be very destructive if left to their own devices, which alas, is most of the day! ;) Mine like to chew on paper.

I've just had National Lampoons Christmas Vacation pop into my head. You know the one with the cat and the Christmas tree. (it ended badly for the cat so perhaps I should say no more!) Maybe you could set Kitty down and have him/her watch that part *evil grin*
