Miscellaneous SGA squee
EEEEEEE!
naye! Check out Mallozzi's blog today, with the cut scenes from Reunion! Some of my fanon is actually the writers' as well!
Ronon as an artist is canon! Except they cut the scene for length. Oh, I wish they hadn't!
"Oh, Ronon was quite the artist in his younger days: sculpting, sketching, writing poetry - "
Squeeeeee! See, he's always been an artist in my head! I wish they'd put that in, 'cause then it would be real canon rather than sort-of not-quite canon! But still ... maybe they'll allude to it in a future episode.
And it's also too bad that they cut the explanations for the various Satedan stuff in his room. But cool to know that the writers were thinking about it.
Other squeefulness is provided by
derry667, whose write-up on the Melbourne con includes the following tidbit from Joe Flanigan's panel:
Joe Flanigan was asked the question whether any of the scripts took his character to places that he didn't want to go and he answered that it wasn't so much specific actions or plots that they'd ever tried to give Sheppard, but he did often "fight them" when they decided that they to make his character "more earnest". Apparently, some of TPTB have told him that because he's the hero, he has to show that he "cares" more obviously. His argument is that he thinks that it's more powerful when you see a character fighting against showing that he cares and holding back emotion. He thinks that has a lot more resonance. He said "it's the difference between things having just one level and having two levels." That it's more powerful, especially with guys, seeing them fighting NOT to show any emotion than to just see them cry.
Squeeee! As some of you know, I really love the subtle friendship stuff, but I second-guess myself a lot, wondering if it's really there or if I'm just reading into the relationship what I want to see there. But it really is there, and I love that Flanigan is that invested with his character, that he thinks about those sorts of things and pushes for the kind of behavior that he wants to see from Sheppard, in keeping with the way he plays him.
And combine that with the following from Mallozzi's blog yesterday:
In the original version, as McKay is being escorted out [of the Wraith cell], Teyla tries to hearten him with: “Stay strong, Rodney.” to which an obviously unnerved McKay replies: “I’ll try.” In the original draft, Sheppard calls after him: “Try harder!” But we ended up losing the line because Sheppard is unconscious at this point. Originally, I felt that the fact the wraith had their stunners trained on Sheppard would be enough to keep him in line but Joe felt Sheppard would resist regardless - so we had him zatted instead.
This is just awesomeness x2, because obviously Flanigan really does play Sheppard as a guy who feels a lot under the surface, and cares a lot more than he lets on -- a guy who wouldn't just stand by and let the Wraith drag his friend away, but has to be stunned to keep him from fighting back. And I love how he pushes TPTB for that interpretation of the character, and steers them back when they get off course.
Also, I need to pimp
naye's episode write-ups again, this time for Reunion. Screencaps and squee! I'm just rolling in the SGA-love this week. I've had a long, stressful, generally kind of terrible week at work (not specifically awful, in the sense of interpersonal problems or anything; just way too much work for the number of people that we have to do it) and having new SGA to look forward to ... it was just a nice way to end a lousy week, let me tell you.
On a slightly different note, though -- I've noticed that my personal stress seems to be manifesting itself as being kind of snappy and knee-jerk-ish online ... so if I've posted an opinionated or harsh comment in your blog lately, um, I'm sorry? My verbal, brain-to-keyboard filter hasn't been working all that well lately, so I hope I haven't annoyed anyone by jumping into discussions on topics that get me agitated.
