I want SGA season 4 now, please

So I'm listening in the background to Adventures in Sci-fi's podcast of their San Diego Comicon interviews (links to main page, download available) -- which does contain S4 spoilers, I know, I'm just sort of "la la la"ing through the worst ones, but I couldn't help myself. Anyway, I got to this comment: (note: not specifically spoilerish in and of itself, but hints at general S4 content and it's with one of the new cast members, so I'm putting it under a cut)

Jewel Staite talking about doing medical stuff on the show: "I've had to do CPR countless times, and really complicated surgeries ..."

CPR? "Countless" times? *ears perk up* And surgery? What's this, then? Hurt? Comfort? *twitches* Is it September yet??

Also, [livejournal.com profile] winter_elf is seriously awesome. Just had to mention that. [livejournal.com profile] winter_elf knows what I'm talking about. ♥

hee :)

Now I wonder whether she'll do CPR right or I'll be yelling at the screen. (Stargate is actually usually remarkably good about doing first aid stuff correctly)

We can have S4 now please? (especially because maybe the wank will die down and there can be squee?)
(plus, I really want more Ronon)

Well, from my limited knowledge of the Red Cross first responder certification I got several years ago, they tend to it more right than many shows. I have been known to yell at tv that does CPR (and other things) blatantly wrong and both stargates do it right enough that I don't yell. They also (Janet and Carson) are good at properly turning over an injured person and decent with splinting and such. Though there have been times where I yell at the screen that there is no way a certain character survived something undamaged (Sheppard in "The Ark" comes to mind).

Oddly, I yell at the science less. I expect them to get that wrong.

Exactly what you said! I don't understand declaring the hate before they try it - I admit I am not in love with all the changes, but I still love the show and I want to try before I decide what I think.

They do the medical scenes well?

*giggle-snort* Not saying nuthin. No. Not a word.

Except that despite my resolution to avoid spoilers, I couldn't resist checking out your post. Using your moment of weakness as an excuse for one of my own. ;-P

Yeah, is it September yet? For several reasons...

Okay, maybe I'd better say something.

I suppose it's the scientific side of the medicine that gets majorly messed up. The entire medical conference scene in "Conversion" is major case of putting fingers in ears and singing "la la la" very loudly.

The CPR type stuff doesn't me make be roll my eyes too often (although I think I've become a little immune to it - like I'm resigned to scenes depicting cardioversion "Charge! Clear!" in any TV series or movie being ridiculously overblown).

And the only thing on SGA that ever made me want to actually throw something at the television were the scenes in "Critical Mass" which had Carson saying things that no doctor trained in Western medicine in the past 20 years or more would've said. The idea that he'd treat a patient against their expressed wishes because he's "taken an oath to preserve life at all costs" is just... just... No frickin way!

Ah, Hollywood medicine. Gotta love it! Or not.

Woo hoo! Can't wait for September.

YES YES!! More Sheppard interaction with Ronon! That's what I want next season.

*blushes* Short of my own internal mantra, and a few angsty comments on LJ, I, thankfully, have not come unhinged over Carter, and while I'm not one who particularly likes her induction to SGA, as I never liked her even in SG1, I am willing to give it a season before my conclusions are drawn.

It all came to a header for me last week. I made the mistake of stumbling on the GateWorld Forums. Ugh.. what a hate-fest that place is. And can they whine? Yea.. they can. And I found myself ready to give up on SGA altogether. So sitting off by myself, remembered why I started watching this show in the first place; I LOVE IT!

Now, admittedly, I feel in love with the dynamics of certain characters, but truthfully, shows always go through changes and the attempt really is to make it better, not worse. No matter what we might think.

So. I'm canning the negitive vibes. I'm boxing up my angst over the changes and I'm reasserting my love over this show; of Sheppard, Ronon and Rodney and Radik (God.. i suck at spelling his name).

My new inner mantra is, as per our dear Sheppard: Let's stay positive people!

Go you! When sections of the fandom turn into an angry hate-filled mob, it can leave me wondering "why bother?". But yes, THE SHOW is what it's all about! We've got to remember what we love about the show and not let the fandom kerfuffle spoil it for us.

Positive thinking! Yes!
