The Dresden Files books continue...

... and I've now read Book 6.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

If the TV show was like this I'd be all over it like white on rice! WHY ISN'T THE TV SHOW LIKE THIS?

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] xparrot! You wanted to know whether you should read these books? Well, you should! Seriously, you should! Any book that starts out with the hero rescuing a box of puppies from a demon has got to be good ...

*laughs* I can just imagine Jim Butcher sitting around thinking of new ways to make Harry's life suck. "Aha, I've got it! He'll find out he's related to a nest of vampires!"

I can't believe they don't have Thomas on the show. I mean, really! SEX VAMPIRE! If ever there was a character who was designed to be on TV, it's Thomas! And yet he's not! What's up with that?

I don't suppose this will come as a huge shock to the 0.003% of people reading this journal who don't already know this, but I have a gigantic brother/best friend/surrogate family fetish. This books are finally starting to hit that fetish and hit it hard, and not just in the Thomas area. Murphy is ten kinds of awesome. And the whole Ebenezar thing ... *ow*. And have I mentioned that puppies melt me into a big girly mess? Especially demon-hunting puppies with cute little puppy growls ... *melts*

You know, I realized in this book that I'm actually okay with the idea of Murphy and Harry becoming a couple, if the books should happen to go that way. After Susan got vamped, I thought "Oh woe, don't have Harry fall for Murphy now" because I really like her as sort of a best friend/surrogate sister. But I realized in this book that if it does go that way, they'd still be good. I'm okay if it doesn't, and I love the idea of them being platonic friends until Murphy's old and gray, snarking each other through strings of failed love affairs (assuming he doesn't find a way to make it work with Susan). But I could also see them slipping slowly from friendship into love, still driving each other crazy in the very best way.

And there are so many plot threads hanging right now! Could Harry's life suck any worse? The vampire/wizard war, the cursed coin, the Walker, Mavra -- and he still owes two favors to the faery queen, doesn't he? AND he's got Shiro's sword (and all the attendant baggage that comes with it), AND there's Lara and all of that family just waiting in the wings to cause trouble, AND he's sort of made a quasi-enemy out of Ebenezar. Could he actually, just once, manage to deal with an old enemy without making two new ones in the process?

Of course I won't find out for a while, because dratted B&N doesn't have the rest of the series, so I'm going to have to order it online! Gah! The waiting! It burns!

Just starting book 5

...oh, because I need more things to fan on!!! *runs away screaming*

*ducks back for an instant to add the series to The List*

(btw, have you ever read the Artemis Fowl books? They're a kids' series but they're quite cute, and lots of friendshipping...)

*flails* YAY! You're finally getting to the really really good parts! Not that the first few books aren't great, but Butcher's writing really matures over the series-- especially his ability to juggle multiple plot threads, heh.

Could Harry's life suck any worse?
--This is seriously the motto for the books, oh my gosh. And the answer is: YES. Mwahahaha! XD

And speaking of waiting: book 9 comes out next month! *does a happy dance*

Yay, glad to hear it! :D Umm, what else could help... Oh! There are three preview chapters (http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden/9/) of it up on his website; also, he's doing a virtual signing (http://www.jim-butcher.com/news/000176.php) of all his books (but only until tomorrow-- eep! better get my order in). Also, two short (http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden/restoration/) stories (http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden/vignette/) up on his website as well.

No prob, I'm always happy to share. :)

Yes! That's something I've been noticing, recently; newer authors (esp sf/fantasy) are pretty internet savvy, and know that providing free stuff is one way of getting really loyal fans. And we get to find out the little details that no one would ever think to actually publish. *g* I'll be interested to see if more mainstream authors start doing it, too...

Yay you posted!

See, I TOLD you tons of cool stuff happened in this one! THOMAS! MOUSE! Harry has a DOG and a BROTHER and a cursed coin and and and!

And I'm still one ahead of you, so read faster! =)

Yes, puppies rule.

Harry's life continues to suck; on the plus side he isn't as lonely anymore. He's got a roomie!

The way certain groups of Harry's companions cycle in and out of the various books. Harry turns down the possibility of asking Michael for help, but he never mentions Billy and the other werewolves; or at least I can't remeber it.

"Bolshevik Muppet!" Enters the lexicon of Dresden Files battlecries along with "I don't believe in Faeries!" and "For the Pizza Lord! Charge!"

And the guys I do historical fencing nwith look at me like I'm crazy when I say these.

Well Thomas had a lot of other injuries the first time around, the second time it was just a slash to his chest and the neck break. He probably had enough energy left to keep him from doing any serious harm, at least that's the story I'm sticking with. I imagine that he hit a singles bar or found a cute jogger if he was low on energy, and he apparently wasn't quite to the "kill by feeding, or die" stage.

I have to agree, if you haven't read the books please do!!. I strongly recommend you do read them in order the stories do flow from one book to another. I unfortunatly am scrambling to get my hands on the whole collection and between my local libary and book story im reading them out of wack.

Great story...
