SG-1 10x12 comments
I see that the Ori are still supplying their troops from the Stormtrooper Discount Outlet, i.e. weapons which cannot be aimed and armor that appears to have no visible function whatsoever other than to slow down your soldiers and interfere with their visibility.
They're also clearly not recruiting based on brains.
However, I gotta say one thing. The scene where Team Bad Guy kill the people in the village square -- that is exactly the sort of area where I feel like SGA has been pulling back too much this season. Episodes like "Game" and "Irresponsible" SHOULD have been much more tense and suspenseful than they were, but there was a sense of unwarranted ... er, happy-fuzziness to them? And "Game", in particular, I absolutely loved -- but I was still a little bothered by how glibly the problem of war was handled. On SG-1, the scene where the Ori's foot soldiers wipe out the villagers is how they SHOULD be doing this, because it really impresses upon you that these are the enemy. This is serious. People's lives are at stake. I fully expected them to stop at Vala's plea (because I do think that's how it would have been done on SGA, if the last few episodes are anything to go by) and then they didn't, and I just let out a little sigh for the *realism*. I appreciated it, and it makes the rest of the episode a lot more tense. You do assume that they're going to save them -- but it's still tenser than it would be if you KNEW they would. And Toman (sp?) -- I was on the edge of my seat about HIM. I was fully expecting him to go out in a blaze of glory and I'm amazed he's still alive.
I have this ongoing problem with watching SG-1 where I find myself wanting to put the SGA characters in the same situations and wondering how they'd react. I don't do this with other shows, and I KNOW that the two shows are separate and should not be considered together in that way, but I can't HELP myself! It's actually much less pronounced this season, because of the way that we actually ARE getting those team moments on SGA that SG-1 does all the time. Still, I kept sticking SGA characters into the roles in this episode ... blast it.
I loved all the teaminess. And last episode had that neat scene with Cam and Vala talking about worrying over your friends. Ah, SG-1, this is why you stole my heart once upon a time. SGA has my fanself now, but I still get warm fuzzies sometimes -- and I can't believe how much I like Cam now, considering how much I didn't like Browder when he was on Farscape.
And, Daniel. Er, yes. At least they *mentioned* him, for chrissakes. What the heck IS his legal and official status right now, anyway? MIA? Cam seems to be assuming that he's dead. I wish we'd gotten more discussion of that. On the other hand, it's DANIEL, and maybe everyone has just gotten blase about it by now. "Oh look, Daniel's dead again. Wonder how long it'll be 'till he shows up again?" *grin*

Very true. They have sort become blase about it. I don't remember the episode but there was a great scene one time where one character (military geek) says something to the effect of "Dr. Jackson is going to die when he sees this" and another character response is "What, again?"

The scene that sticks out most for me from this episode was Sam and Cam (seriously, the fact that they rhyme is disturbing)
talking about faith (are you surprised?) It shows how much Sam as developed as a character, because in 'Spirits' (love that episode) she was immediately dismissive of faith, and very close minded.
Also, did anyone else notice that Cam stole John's lines?

Daniel has died/been presumed dead/gone missing more than the rest of them put together - from both series!
Although Sheppard's starting to give him competition in that area. Sheppard's "deaths" tend not to last for more than a few minutes in an episode, though.

Where?

I think the writers just like having Lt Cols in the USAF making air steward jokes...
I'm still waiting for the day when Ronon makes some kind of Satedan cultural reference that no one gets - a la Teal'c telling his serpent-guard/horse-guard joke. That would be very cool - especially as Ronon has a great SOH.
