Futzing with LJ styles (as anyone who's been reading my journal this afternoon has no doubt noticed...)

Why is it that the VAST majority of the LJ styles available to the free accounts are so mind-blowingly ugly? I mean ... horrible clashing colors, layout designs that are nearly impossible to read and/or well-night unusable ... out of all the many options, there are only a few that are even remotely pleasant to look at. What is up with that?

I ended up spending the $20 and got the paid account. Figured, $20...either I spend it on this LJ thing, or I get some groceries...

It took me a while, but I finally figured out I needed to be in S2 mode instead of S1 to get more options. Tipper helped me with that one. Then I finally splurged and upgraded to the full $20 paid account! Whoot! And I feel fabulous

Oh thank heavens ... I feel like so much less of a giant dork now. See, for something like a YEAR I've had a lot more layout options on my Friendshipper LJ than on my other one. It wasn't until today, actually, that I figured out why ... it's because I had S2 selected on the Friendshipper LJ and S1 on the other one.

I felt very, very dense.

I actually chose it for the aurora; I didn't notice the penguins until later ...

I've never seen the aurora - really want to. Not to say that our night sky isn't painted strange colours - it's a sort of orangy/brown murk thanks to light pollution. (our street lights have orange gels)

That's why I generally stick with black, though I've got this funky little skater thing going on right now, being a coach and all...*pffft* I prefer my black. People complain that they can't reply well, cause they can't see the links, but I LIKE it, darn it. LOL!!

I don't know why so many of the LJ styles use such terribly clashing colors. Maybe my aesthetic sense is still stuck in the pre-computer era and all of this is very happening and "now". *grin*
