sholio: sun on winter trees (SGA-watch2)

This post brought to you by boredom at work

I don't normally do memes. But every once in a while, one looks like fun to me, and this one did. Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] ratcreature:

Ask me about any TV show that you think I haven't seen, and I'll tell you what I think it's about judging from what I've seen on my f-list and the Internet in general.

Shows that I'm familiar with include the Stargates, the Star Treks (except the most recent 2), old BSG (but not the new one), Lost, Invisible Man, Sentinel, Buffy, Forever Knight, Dead Like Me, Firefly, Quantum Leap, MacGyver, Red Dwarf, My Name is Earl.

Shows I'm sorta familiar with, as in, I've seen a few episodes or even a season or two, but would probably flunk a trivia quiz on the show: Farscape, Babylon 5, Dr. Who, Angel.

This is not a complete list and I'm quite sure there are others, but none are coming to mind at the moment. I don't watch a whole lot of TV (although I'm sure I watch more than that...).

So ask away!

How about Supernatural?
ratcreature: RatCreature as Sam and Dean. (sam and dean)

Yay for the prospect of another SPN fan! It is an awesome series, especially if you are not too nitpicky about plot details and the series' supernatural mythology but watch for the character interaction. A couple of eps during first season I didn't like that much, but the later eps of the first season and the second season so far made me squee a lot. And the show totally caters to its fangirls by spending lots of time on the characters and their relationships.

But I've now had enough people with similar viewing tastes to mine tell me, "This is really good, you should watch this!" that I can't resist the peer pressure anymore. *grin*

ROTFLMAO! Seriously dying of laughter here (and I'm at work!) Coz this is exactly the position I was in about two months ago. And now I'm obsessed to the point of writing 9000+ words about it in my LJ this week!

You are DOOMED, my friend! You are so very, very doomed.

*snicker*

Now officially *DEAD* from laughter.

Truly.

Worried about the loss of SGA fic though.

OOPS!!!

Hmmm... what about Heroes? (I'll be biased and say I've just fallen in love with it). -lis

Not bad! It's taken over my LJ and brain lately. Check it out on NBC or iTunes... ;)

CSI? Vegas, Miami, or NY...

[identity profile] nebbyjen.livejournal.com 2006-11-15 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I've followed Vegas from the beginning and over the years the relationships between the team members have been building to some of the best out there. Sure, there's a lot of science and the forensics can get pretty gritty, but in the episode 'Gravedigger' where Nick was buried and the team had to find him, in the end Grissom stated that 'he wanted his team back' was just awesome. I think a newbie to the show would have a hard time understanding what a regular viewer has come to find over the years.

As for Miami, this one took me awhile to get hooked in to... but it's happened. The team is good, but the characters are still distanced from one another and at times the spats between them gets to be annoying. At times the stories are just so far out there, that you have to laugh at how idiotic they must think the average viewer has to be.

And finally, NY...I don't really watch it. As great as Gary Sinise is as an actor, for some reason it's just too dark and rarely do I make it through an entire episode.

This season is number 7. Season 1 was so-so, they were just beginning to define the characters, but after that, it really started to get good. Sure, there are dud episodes every once in awhile, but overall, it's still my favorite... next to SGA of course.

Yes and no on the "realism" of CSI.

From what I have heard the basic premise of the episodes and some of the forensics tests are somewhat true to life, but the time it takes to get the results is insanely fast.

You are right in that not character focused...there is
development but it is slow and over the course of years.

Easy one - The West Wing. Hard one - (possibly, and yes, it's American) First Monday.

Incidentally this and 'Firefly' are the only other shows apart from SGA that I own any (and all) episodes of. (ended that sentence with a preposition!)

[identity profile] with-apostrophe.livejournal.com 2006-11-15 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
Actually that's a lie. I have 'Due South' season one and 'Cupid'. You know that one?

[identity profile] with-apostrophe.livejournal.com 2006-11-15 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I was being cruel with 'First Monday' and 'Cupid'.

First Monday tried to be The West Wing, but in the Supreme Court. However, their writing team were crap and they totally wasted certain characters, like Julian Lodge played by a guy called Joe Flanigan (you may have heard of him). If you see icons of Joe wearing a bowtie (not a tuxedo one) they'll be from FM. Anyway, the series got cancelled before it finished its first season - mercifully.

'Cupid' was about a guy who claimed to be Cupid, exiled from Mount Olympus until he could make 100 couples fall in love without using his powers. Naturally they think he's crazy, so he has to attend a singles counselling night with his female psych and then of course tries to make matches... Someone called Joe Flanigan was in four episodes, playing the psychiatrist's boyfriend. There's a bit on YouTube - lemme find it...

Oh I know! They've multiplied exponentially since I was there a few months ago. Fortunately I've seen all the film/tv stuff aleady. If you like a partially disrobed Joe, then watch the Dawson's Creek bits and Profiler (which is worth it for the short hair alone!). Oh and the clip from 'The Other Sister' of him "dancing". It's just so funny....
