Okay, new friending policy ... I'm going to start un-friending people for uncut spoilers. "Friending" for me, isn't really about friendship per se; it's just a way of collecting in one place all (or at least, most of) the journals that I like to read. If it's got spoilers in it, that aren't behind a cut, I'm going to stop reading it. I've been known to seek out spoilers deliberately, and I know what I'm getting myself into if I visit Gateworld or one of the other news n' rumor sites, but I don't want to have unwanted spoilers dumped into my lap.
You know, this is yet another thing I resent about Sci-Fi's ultra-long hiatus ... it's giving a chance for the spoilers to thoroughly network their way through the fanosphere, so by the time we get there, all the surprises will probably have been sprung.
*vex*
Incidentally, I didn't get a word of fic written this weekend. It was certainly a lovely weekend for other people's fic, though ... a new and wonderful story from Liketheriver, lovely new chapters from Tipper and Cybersyd and Tazmy and I'm probably forgetting who else ... all I know is that just about every time I'd take a break from housework and art and the other things I was doing this weekend, there would be something new and nice to read. I'm probably going to continue the writing break for another few days, because I'm making real progress on some of my deadline projects and I'd like to keep it up. Besides, I'm still kinda blocked on all the major fics I've got going right now. I apologize for posting some of "Ghost" before it was closer to completion; it was so far along that I really did think that it would go quicker than it has.

I'm with you about the hiatus; it's allowing not just the spoilers, but the damned rumours to percolate all the way through the fandom. I'm trying to stay away from them, but the habit of taking a break and jumping to LJ or the forums quickly to see what's up is hard to break. And of course the rumor posts are *right* there with everything else... /sigh/ Self-inflicted wounds to start with, but with the ridiculous hiatus, not in the end.
And my sincerest apologies if I've done the un-lj-cut spoiler thing; I'm not always good about remembering.
As for new fic, Check out

The main reason why I said something publicly wasn't intended to make anyone feel bad, anyway; it was mostly just to remind people to be careful.

Well, obviously, if they pertain to a certain episode, or, let's say, a character that isn't supposed to be around comes back to do very bad things to John, but...news from Gateworld are considered spoilers?
If so, I will definitely have to revise the cut policy. :)

I really didn't mean to jump down anybody's throat; like I said in my comment above, I woke up kinda grouchy today anyway, and then finding out something I would really rather not have known made me extra-grouchy.

Is a sorry in order, here? I assume it was me, but don't think I was ever on your flist. Anyhoo, sorry for the potential spoiler, and thank you for the clarification on what, in fact, constitutes a spoiler.
It's so easy to screw up and inadvertently step on toes in fandom. There should be a guide: Welcome to Fandom. Please do not do this, you moron. :)
Thanks!

I would be quite happy for things to stay this way, as I feel my enjoyment of 'Common Ground' was heightened by not knowing before the ep who would help John, and the week after I was highly annoyed when some stupid person on Wraithbait wrote a fic from looking at spoiler photos whose summary spoilt a main development in the M&MM plot.
I knew nothing at all about either 'Phantoms' or 'The Return 1' and loved the thrill of having no idea what was coming next....
So people with anything that could be considered spoilerific, please use a cut, but do state what the spoiler might pertain too - i.e. 'Spoiler concerning major character development' might be avoided by people who quite like to know 'spoiler concerning possible amusing character scene.'
Some people might consider (and these are made up examples) 'The Genii are not going to feature in any episode past 311 in season 3' a spoiler, whilst others may not mind that, but be highly miffed to hear 'because Ladon upsets the Replicatirs and they're all destroyed'. (Again, I have just made these up, they are not actual spoilers or even rumours!).
Here endeth the lesson.

My biggest problem right now, really, is maintaining the self-control through the hiatus not to go on Gateworld and read spoilers! I *know* I don't want to know and I'm much happier being surprised, but it's just so hard, with no weekly fix, to stop myself from taking just a leeeetle peek. (So far I've been pretty good, though.)

The spoiler issue, yeah, it can get bad. I'm pretty loose on it because I don't mind spoilers for the most part. What kills me is gateworld. Have you seen the thread titles in the current seasons? (both SG-1 and SGA) It makes me want to pull my hair out and ask people 'dude, SPOILER!' The titles over, geez, 80% of the time, give away the spoiler that is being discussed. It's ridiculous. I'm glad that mostly I don't care because otherwise it'd drive me away from GW totally.
I haven't seen a whole lot of issues on my flist with spoilers. But I haven't been looking much lately, it's 530pm and I'm finishing up two boys with math (this because I got a phone call from the col's wife wanting to chat about spouse groups and family day coming up, argh)!

I agree that the long hiatus will not help with the rumors and spoiler proliferation. And the waiting is killing me. Stupid Sci-Fi, what *were* they thinking? Oh, wait...they weren't. ;)

I hope I haven't done anything spoiler wise. I do everything I can to avoid them myself!
