Fanfic recs: 2 Yu-Gi-Oh, 1 Alien Dice, 1 James Bond
I have such a very weird, omnivorous fanlife.
Traumas of the Mind by Sphynx.
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh
Characters: Yugi, Jounouchi, Kaiba
Warnings: Character abuse; a character's death is mentioned but not seen
Takes place several years after the end of the series. Jounouchi, who is now the single father of a young child (following Mai's death), is taken hostage, and Yugi enlists Kaiba's help to get him back. It's a decently written, friendship-oriented gen story, and there are a couple of adorable scenes involving Jounouchi's child (whose name, amusingly, is Arson) and Kaiba. It isn't going to end up being one of my all-time favorite stories, mostly because the writing style is so sketchy -- the author sets up an interesting situation and then jumps to something else before you have time to get into it. The characterization is also a bit so-so at times.

Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh
Characters: Jounouchi, Hirutani
Warnings: none
Same author as above ... an interesting short piece in which Jounouchi runs into his old gang leader Hirutani in jail.
Deathstyles of the Rich and Blameless by Clinkeroo.
Fandom: James Bond (bookverse)
Characters: Bond, OC
Warnings: none
It's SOOO hard to find good bookverse James Bond fanfic. (Now if I could just find some bookverse Bond/Lieter fic ...!) The author of this story does a very good job of capturing both Ian Fleming's writing style, and the walk-a-fine-line characterization of Book!Bond, a man who is two parts bastard and one part decent human being. The twist at the end is unexpected but very Fleming-ish, too. There are a few typos, but overall, quite a good read.

This one's a fanfic for the webcomic Alien Dice. In such a tiny fandom, and one in which my favorite characters/pairings are not the most popular with fans, it's really rare to find a story that deals with my favorite characters. This is short, sweet and involves Riley angsting about his adopted brother Lexx. I love Riley angst.
