Uploaded my longer WC stories to ff.net, on the general principle that, since I still have the account and still get reviews from time to time, I probably ought to post occasionally to let everyone know I'm not dead. This is the first time I've used ff.net's upload system since ... early 2008, I guess, looking at the timestamps on the stories. It's ... not as awful as I remember? I much prefer AO3's upload interface, but I remember that ff.net's process used to be a lot more miserable and opaque with my old computer and Firefox 2. The only problem I ran into this time is that for some weird reason it stripped out every space following an italics tag, which I had to go and fix by hand (... that's a lot of fun in a 65K-wd story) but the edit interface worked (yay) and the preview previewed correctly (double yay) which didn't used to be the case for me.

I also uploaded my SGA Texas AU stories to AO3, should you wish to reread them! I have most of my fanfic in various fandoms on AO3 (though I keep finding stuff I forgot) except for nearly all of the SGA fic. I haven't been too fussed about getting it on AO3 since it's all on my website anyway, but I'd like to get it up eventually, so I've been sloooowwwwly adding stories to AO3. (A few at a time, when I feel like it.)

ETA: Anyone know if AO3 will show you the total word count you've posted? I thought there was a feature like that, but now I can't find it, so I'm starting to wonder if perhaps I imagined it.

Do you post at Twisting the Hellmouth? Because I know that its a feature over there, so it's possible you remembered it from the wrong archive...

No, I don't post there, but I might well be confusing it with somewhere else that I've posted; that's a likely suggestion now that I think about it! (I'm not sure where, but there have been quite a few places ...)

No, as far as I know we don't have advanced stats yet (someday! Someday! I want that one bad! ...though to use it I gotta finish posting my own SGA; I think I've got just about everything up, but there's a few of those left somewhere about...)

... but I thought it already had that for some reason! (Not sure why; maybe I'm mixing it up with somewhere else I used to post stuff.) As far as bells and whistles go, that's a fairly extraneous one, and I don't think it's a huge problem that it doesn't exist or anything, but it would be awfully nice! ^^

I have written a terrifying amount of SGA. XDDD There are 103 files in my "finished SGA" folder on my computer, and I know the actual count is higher, because some of them are combined in one document, or written as commentfic, etc. I keep coming up with stories I'd forgotten I'd written! I can't figure out what strategy to follow in posting them, either ... go chronologically, forwards? Backwards? Long stories first? Favorite stories first? nrgh.

Ooh, thanks for the AO3 link to the SGA Texas universe. Yours was one of the first stories I ever read in the fandom and still one of the few gen stories I read and re-read :D. I had also forgotten about the last one on the seasons so it was a treat all over again. Course, another treat might be reading some new fic in this 'verse *nudge*. Just sayin'...

Now I have to read the series again. Good times are a comin' again!

Awwww, thank you so much! :D I was thinking when I was uploading it that I can't believe it's been five years since I wrote it. Time goes by so quickly ...

I never had any problems with uploading the stories at ff.net, but I never used firefox, so that might be the reason. The only thing tedious about it, is that you always have to check in that you read the rules when you upload a new story, and that you have to go into documents to correct the spaces everytime. But they are constantly working on the design of the site.

Well, the problem I always used to have was that the edit/preview dialogue never worked for me, so I'd have to upload a document, brace myself and click "post", then, if any formatting errors occurred, see if I could figure out a way to fix them in the original document, upload again & replace. Sometimes I'd have to re-upload the dratted thing half a dozen times before I managed to find and fix everything that was getting broken. This time, the only thing that happened was the italics thing, but all I had to do was go into the edit window and add the spaces back in manually -- annoying in a 70,000 word story, but infinitely preferable to posting it, then having no idea what had gone wrong and having to try random stuff to the original story 'til I figured out something that worked. (I wonder if adding extra spaces to begin with would do anything to help, or if that's just unavoidable?)

AO3 occasionally does weird random things as well (like the time that it decided to make one line of my story tiny for no apparent reason) but in most cases I've just been able to copy-paste into an update window, very much like making an LJ post.

I don't post at AO3, but that has nothing to do with the interface, but with the fact that they are allowing adult stories.
