Highlander - up to 2x20 (Pharoah's Daughter)
I'm, um, tearing through the series at an alarming rate. (It makes great background accompaniment for some of my other tasks. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. *g*)
The scene with Dawson and Duncan at the end of the (otherwise quite silly) vampire episode, where Dawson asks him out for a drink? OH BOYS. SO CUTE. :D :D :D Possibly my favorite scene with them to date.
and hahahaha I love little medieval!Amanda and the dramatic change in her over the centuries.

Actually I get a major kick out of barbarian!Duncan as well. Apropos of the earlier Scotland flashbacks, I'm pretty sure that circa 1600, the Highlands of Scotland were more like lots of small villages of farmers than lots of barbarians wearing furs. Duncan's past looks a lot more like Scotland in, say, 700 A.D. or something. But young!Duncan is so very innocent and cute.
I found the midpart of this season rather slow going, but starting towards the end of the last batch of episodes, I got hooked again. I don't know if the season picks up and gets better towards the end, or if I just needed some time to adjust to Duncan's new post-Tessa circumstances, but it's grabbed me hard again. Awwwwww, Richie's back, and he and Duncan have patched things up most adorably -- or, perhaps, worked their way to a more adult and equal relationship than they used to have. Anyway, drinking on the bridge -- awww!
The quickenings are getting hilariously pyrotechnic. CHEEEEESE! Also, the Egypt episode ... as much as I love the idea of a "time capsule" Immortal, my disbelief was not only suspended but hung by the neck until dead. I can accept the characters in various historical periods (or France, today) speaking "English" because I presume that the viewpoint character -- Duncan -- is understanding and answering them in their own language, as are other characters around them: it's a narrative convention for convenience's sake, but one that doesn't stretch credibility too much. But clearly there's no way that Duncan or other characters are understanding and speaking whatever she's speaking -- Ancient Egyptian, Latin, Greek, whatever was spoken in the Egypt of Cleopatra's era. Heee, as a history buff, this show makes me want to write fanfic just to fix the historical stuff! (I just about broke my brain trying to figure out where Rebecca and Amanda were supposed to be from.)
Beyond that, the Egypt episode really made me wonder about the role of food and water for Immortals. We've seen them eat and drink like anyone else, but logically they'd have to be able to survive starvation or they wouldn't be, well, immortal. So how does starvation affect them? Do they suffer hunger pains? Lose weight? When they eat, do they metabolize food normally?
These are probably the sort of questions that we're not supposed to wonder about.
Speaking of things we're probably not supposed to wonder about, her people must have mummified her, right? So did she have to regrow not just all her organs but her BRAIN? Was she aware of any of that happening? Ew.
On the other hand, just relaxing and going with the flow and trying very hard not to think much, it was a rather fun episode.

"They're under there. *points to hood; she looks skeptical* They're real tiny."
Anyway, all we have left is the season finale, and then it's onwards to season 3!

OH GOD. I never ever thought about the fact that she must have bee MUMMIFIED. Um, jeez. Yes, she probably did have to regrow her brain. I really, really want to believe that she was not at all conscious for any of it. O.O

Duncan is so adorable. :D I think half the fun of it is the way Adrian Paul delivers lines like that -- sarcastic, but not obnoxious.

Stunt casting and utter crack. I laughed my way through this, with not a little yelling "HOW SO STUPID" at the TV.
However, I will tell you that they were obviously saving up on the budget, since the next episode is kind of beyond awesome and worth the entire cruddy season. Heh, the last episode might even be the reason for the entire cruddy season.
S2 seemed to be way heavy on the testosterone, and the female guest immortals just couldn't balance it out. I was not impressed with the 'sidekick' concept (that is what Richie is for! Charlie and Maurice, they just were uhm, silly and or redundant) they used in place of Tessa, except for possibly Amanda. Also, the rogue Watcher gallery, was interesting, and Horton is a great bad guy, utterly evil w/o any redeeming qualities at all. S2 was really rocky in spots, with a couple of jewels amongst the dreck.
I am at about 3x17. It is really easy to not watch too closely, I find that if I actually pay attention, I get cranky. :)

I think if I'd been watching in real-time, Tessa's death might have been the point where I'd have quit in disgust, especially when Duncan started getting laid right and left afterwards. In retrospect I can put it in context of the show overall, but I think that would have been really hard to take, watching in real-time. I've quit other shows when favorite characters died. I think it's easier to handle that sort of thing watching big chunks on DVD. And yeah, season 2 and the testosterone ... I really loved the episode with Amanda and her mentor as a rather nice change of pace (and it was the only one thus far that really made we want to write fanfic; the idea of two female rogues with swords running around medieval Europe was a rather cool one to play with, even if these things tend to end badly in RL).
Charlie grew on me, but it took me awhile to come around on him -- it did feel like he was taking Richie's and Tessa's places, and it was hard to deal with. I think I enjoy him a lot more now that he and Duncan have been through some stuff and have had time to become friends, but it's still a little frustrating to me (I'm now in early season 3) that episodes seem to have either a lot of Charlie or a lot of Richie, but not both ... what, can they not pay both actors at once or something? Maurice, uh, yeah. Fun in very, very small doses, but he had "annoying guest star who is going to overstay his welcome" written all over him.
My biggest frustration with season 2, actually, was that they had all these really fun and neat concepts to play with -- the Watchers, Horton, Dawson and his mysterious motivations, Richie's immortality -- but not very many episodes dealt with the overall mytharc. Instead we got a bunch of one-shots with people from Duncan's past or random folks in the city, and while some of those were quite decent as stand-alone episodes, they really weren't what I wanted to be watching.
