Random nerd-post: I miss gaming

Getting my dice out to generate prompts for the Genficathon this weekend (... I'm such a Luddite) made me really miss RPGs. It's been over a decade since I did any gaming at all, and unfortunately my last gaming experience was a rather unpleasant one. I made the mistake of getting talked into gaming with some friends-of-friends on the local military base -- it wasn't nightmarishly bad or anything, just uncomfortable, because they were all guys and they all knew each other and I didn't fit with the group at all.

It took me awhile to even want to game again, and I'm still wary of getting involved with a gaming group that I don't know. But I do miss it. I don't know what game I'd want to play, though. My sister and I toyed around, awhile back, with making up our own set of rules for Stargate gaming, based off the Palladium system rules, but we never finished it.

Are you in Fairbanks? Because there's that terrific gaming/comics store there, and I'm amazed and sad that you can't find a decent gaming group there. Unfortunately, my nephews turned out to be jocks rather than nerds (despite all the gaming crap we used to send them for presents LOL) so I have no personal knowledge of a good gaming group to recommend in your area.

:-D We're just starting up a new Traveller campaign (Space Opera), but we still do Hackmaster (which is basically AD&D First Ed. variant) at major holidays -- when people who've moved away are in the area visiting relatives and whatnot.

Well, yeah, I'm in Fairbanks, but it's not just a matter of finding any group -- I'm pretty shy, and especially since I've had bad experiences in the past, I'd like to find a group of people that I'm comfortable with and fit well with. Though I do really appreciate the invitation. :D

We shall see ... if the craving gets bad enough, I might check bulletin boards at the comic store and university and see if there are any groups starting up. I think it's awesome that you guys are managing to keep up with the gaming; it gets hard once people start moving away and having kids and such!
