Vid rec
Some of my flist may enjoy this: Come With Me, a fanvid for the original Stargate movie, set to "Take a Giant Step" by The Monkees. Awww, man ... I remember watching the movie as a teenager, being so excited by it, and yet so disappointed that they never developed the characters as I wished they had. And then my excitement later, in college, when I found out that it was being developed as a TV series starring one of my favorite actors (I had such a crush on MacGyver when I was a kid. *g*) and maybe now we'd get the character development that I'd wanted. And we did!
It's a little disconcerting to realize that I've been watching Stargate since before I moved out of my parents' house. Half my life. There are other ongoing series that I've been involved with for that long (Discworld, X-Men), and I've shifted in and out of love for Stargate over the years, but there is just something about the fact that I watched the movie when I was right on the cusp of becoming a young adult, and then grew up as the series grew up. There's just a sense of limitless potential to the vid that's all tied up, for me, with the potential of being a young adult about to move out on my own (as well as, okay, a certain disconcerting datedness, because the f/x in the movie haven't really aged all that well, but that's part of growing up, too).
