xparrot, you are right -- the Artemis Fowl books are
total crack, in the good way. The library had all of them, and I read the first three in the past two days --
MINDWIPE?! NOOOOO! -- and I'm trying very hard not to start on the fourth one yet. At least not until I get a few things done first. XD I bounced pretty hard off the writing style at first, but I seem to have gotten used to it as I got into the characters, and I can't help wondering if whoever wrote the negative review that turned me off these books in the first place had actually
read them, because they are obviously heist books and you can't have a heist without a criminal, right?
*eyes next book covetously*

I think that's at least partly because I read them at a point where I was really tired of reading the same YA book over and over again ('ordinary boy finds out he has special powers and must save his country/planet/universe').
I had some trouble with the first one, but once I got to know the characters, I started appreciating them for all their flaws and qualities (and I really love that you see character growth from one book to the next).
And how much do I love that Artemis is really a criminal? A lot. *hearts* I love how he lacks a conscience early on, and how and why that starts changing, and I won't say more so that I won't spoil you, but yay! Love this series.
Enjoy the next books. :)

And they are wonderfully different from most YA. I love the high-tech fairies in particular; what a marvelous idea.
