Oh dear

So I said I wasn't going to sign up for anything else ...

But someone in comments pointed me at [livejournal.com profile] family_haven -- it's a ficathon for stories about friendship/family relationships and OH DEAR, I can feel myself sliiiiiding. (And I just saw that the due date isn't until February, so ... perhaps I will sign up for it? Maybe?)

Signups are here if anyone on my flist is interested! It's multifandom, and the fandoms are:

Supernatural
Numb3rs
Fullmetal Alchemist
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Medium
Stargate Atlantis
NCIS
Naruto
X-Men (canon/movie/evolution)
Harry Potter

(So many of my fandoms! Oh help!)

Ooh, that does sound interesting! And the date is way past all the holiday fests as well...

However, I have no idea what the mod is talking about here: That includes placing the actors that play family in the show in a relationship of any kind. Weird. RPF isn't one of the fandoms listed, so what does it even matter? But if the purpose of that rule is to protect innocent readers from incest, I don't see what the actors have anything to do with it, unless they're related to each other!

I kind of assumed RPF wasn't an allowed fandom since I generally see them listed as separate from their source fandom--SPN vs SPN RPF, for example. But even if they allowed RPF, I don't see how pairing actors who play family falls under "incest". David and Kate Hewlett, sure, but Jared/Jensen?

Don't mind me... Perhaps I'm being too sensitive, worrying about different standards for RPF versus other fandoms.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Maybe they're worried people will try to get around the no-incest rule by writing stories where the actors have smutty roleplay scenes as their related characters?

LOL! I suppose anything is possible, but wow, talk about cognitive dissonance. No smutty role-play incest in my family-oriented fic! I mean... *hands*

(Romantic relationships aren't allowed to be foregrounded, in any case.)

I've sent the mod a private message, so no worries on that count. She's been very patient in explaining! I'm just trying to understand the reasoning behind it, though you have a good point that sometimes ficathon rules evolve in weird ways because people do strange and unexpected things, and it feels like you have to anticipate everything!

There could be some bleed-through between actor and character for the reader--certainly fandom has, at times, been notorious for losing sight of that divide. It still feels wrong to me, though, even if I don't read much RPF nowadays.

(Anyway, I asked and RPF isn't on the list of allowed fandoms.)

LOL! Since I'm a reader not a writer, I'm looking forward to it all. But don't kill yourself! Though I suppose being frazzled will be inescapable.

Hee! Thanks! :) Yeah, a little frazzling is inevitable, but it's supposed to be fun, after all.
