I figured I'd better write all this down

For my own reference, my current fannish commitments:
[livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan story for [livejournal.com profile] raphe1 (2000+ wds)
• very very late [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti story for [personal profile] astridv (it's gonna be a long one, and I'm stuck ...)
• ficlet for [livejournal.com profile] tridget who guessed me in Genficathon (Sheppard & Caldwell)
[livejournal.com profile] spook_me (just signed up, for Avatar this time, since it's multi-fandom; stories due Oct. 26)
• doing a few more fills on my h/c bingo card

Ficathons I'm probably signing up for:
• Yuletide (signups in ... early October, isn't it?; due mid-Dec)
[livejournal.com profile] sheppard_hc holiday fic exchange (signups mid-Sept-ish; due around Christmas?) - last year was the first year I haven't done this one since it's been running, and I'd like to do it again
[livejournal.com profile] sga_santa (due mid-Dec) - mmmmmaybe, it depends on whether I'm feeling overwhelmed by the time signups open

What am I forgetting ...?

Oh yes, and in "reasons why Avatar fandom is awesome", there is currently a discussion of the show at [community profile] white_lotus that is taking place entirely in haiku. (And thus you'll see why I don't write poetry. My haiku is bad. Really really bad. At least it scans.)

I totally forgot about the Spook_Me ficathon... again *dithers* *dithers some more* *keeps dithering* To sign up or not to sign up?

I wasn't going to, but then I got to reading through the list of monsters and the temptation was too much. :D The "prompts" this year are going to be classic horror covers, which sounds like too much fun! I thought about signing up for two different stories, SGA and Avatar, because I really wanted to do an Avatar ghost story but I was also deeply tempted by some of the monster prompts for the SGA-verse -- dinosaurs! But I figured that I wouldn't get too carried away; if I want to do an SGA dinosaur story, I can just write one. :D

That's an impressive list!

At the moment all I have in terms of fannish commitments is fma_ladyfest and hc_bingo, and I think the hc_bingo deadline is December, at least. I have only one book to work on right now, with an October 31 deadline, but damn that thing is is a ton of work. I'm wondering if it's time to flail&panic a little or whether that's premature.

Or I could just get off LJ and stop procrastinating and get some actual work done... *groans*. At least the project is interesting. Still, I miss doing fanart.

Mmm, yeah ... actual work does tend to trump fanwork (sadly). But procrastinating is so tempting ...

I think it looks more impressive than it actually is when it's all written out like that -- mostly it's stuff that's been hanging over my head for a while (*cough*yourstory*cough*) or things without a specific deadline.

Ahah, I just checked out your haiku link...

(My lit teacher said
Real haikus mention nature.
So: Melbourne is cold)

I lol'd.

I must definitely check out Avatar at some point... I mean, once I'm through with Chuck, which for some reason makes great après work watching, and possibly Leverage. (I watched one episode of Leverage and *really* enjoyed it.)

... back to the haiku!

Leverage is fun! I stalled out in season two, because it's a cute fun show but it never really goes anywhere. After awhile I got tired of wanting more from it than it was capable of giving. Maybe eventually I'll watch more of it. And I still have a couple of icons for it. *uses one*

Chuck is somewhere on my "maybe watch eventually" list. There are a lot of things ahead of it right now, but it looks like it would be fun!

And I do hope you get a chance to watch Avatar eventually! I really think that, of all the people on my flist, it would appeal to you in particular -- awesome female characters, gorgeous art, pretty boys (and girls!) throwing fireballs at each other ...

Chuck is fun, nothing more, nothing less. I watched an episode on the plane to San Diego and for some reason it captured my attention, OTT spy clichés and all. It has some funny moments, nice UST between the leads which so far they haven't totally overplayed, and Adam Baldwin. I actually went to see the Chuck panel at comic con, since I was there and curious about the show.

(Also Zachary Levy is cute which doesn't hurt one bit...)

Leverage is fun! I stalled out in season two, because it's a cute fun show but it never really goes anywhere.

That's how NCIS is for me. It has come to be a show I'm not at all invested in, but it's nice to watch an episode with friends. I could stop watching anytime and wouldn't miss it. Actually I haven't even watched the last season in its entirety.

Leverage seems the right kind of show to watch while sketching. I know Frasier and Friends by heart by now, line by line...

That's how NCIS is for me, too! I think I only saw about 2/3 of the episodes last season, and I enjoyed the ones I watched, but didn't miss the ones I skipped.

I'd forgotten Adam Baldwin is on Chuck. I knew there was something specific that made me want to see it, beyond just the fun-spy-show thing ...

Woah! That looks like a lot to juggle at once. I tend to do a few stories at once, too. I am not sure if it is best to do one thing at a time, or if that is just my way of doing things.

It gets worse, because I'm thinking about signing up for this (http://penknife.livejournal.com/512933.html) too. (Note to self: You may have a problem. But this one's short!)

One thing at a time vs. many - I don't know! I am definitely a person who bounces around between different projects, and I kind of like it that way. But some of the writers I respect immensely work best if they focus on one project until they complete it. So I guess it's really just a matter of what works best for the individual!
