Random post is random
The first week's author guessing post is up at
sga_genficathon. Next week there will be another with the second half of the stories. If you correctly guess which one is mine (I only wrote one this year), I'll write you a little ficlet of your choosing. (At least, er, theoretically. I think I still owe a ficlet to
xparrot from something or other last fall.)
We watched the first episode of Probe last night (the show I was looking for in my last post) -- well, the pilot 2-parter, that is. It's definitely the show I was looking for, and wow, it's so, so '80s. The hair! The high-tech AI that communicates by printing text on a black-and-white text-only CRT! (Which the characters then read aloud for the benefit of the audience.) The random wtf sexism! The square, boxy cars! The way technology doesn't quite do what the characters (and the writers) seem to think it does! Did I mention the HAIR? It's kinda awesome. XD
The show is obviously dubbed from somewhat degraded VHS tapes, and I hadn't realized how much nostalgia there was for me in the bad picture quality and the muffled sound. *g* We're all spoiled now with DVDs and high-quality, digitally dubbed AVIs. I don't think I'd want to go back to messing with rabbit ears trying to get a picture that doesn't wobble, but watching these is taking me straight back to childhood and our tiny little black-and-white TV. It's funny how many nostalgia warm-fuzzies I'm getting from it.

I've also had moments of nostalgia for old realplayer files ^^;
Hee! Me too! Like with the VHS picture quality, it's sort of a combination of "awww, remember when!" and "Wow, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that anymore." XD

Yeah, I kind of remember that, actually: no specifics, but being annoyed at a show I could otherwise like (or might have, had it had much of a run).

That I don't recall! Oh, the hilarity!

Yeah, it's almost like culture shock in a way, and it's doubly disconcerting to realize that this was only 20 years ago!
