*boggle*

I just saw that my story "That Which is Broken" won in its category on the SG fan awards. Wow! Huge thanks to those who voted for me! I kinda feel guilty about it, because I was up against a couple of truly *fantastic* stories in that category. But I really, really appreciate the votes!

Cruising the winners, it's neat to see how many of them are among my favorites, as well.

I saw you won, and it's well deserved. That's easily my favorite in the category, wonderful fic (I actually remember reading it when it was a WIP hehehe).

Congrats!

Thank you! Yeah ... wow ... back in the day. *grin* And congratulations for "City in the Sea", too -- definitely well deserved!

Congratulations! :D I read "That Which is Broken" sometime over the summer and enjoyed it very much. :)

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! (and ... cute icon)

Yeah great fic! I loved your Teyla (didn't notice if you DID use a contraction somewhere), and Rodney (both amusing and wonderfully pathetic - as only he can be), and John (again amusing and yet making me want to *shake* some sense into the idiot). You managed to not make it a) soppy or b) 'Saint Rodney maligned and mistreated' which are two painfully common errors made with 'Trinity' codas.

Here - go feast your eyes on this lovely photo of John and Teyla (http://pics.livejournal.com/with_apostrophe/pic/0002ahr5) - that I am strangely drawn to and have been wanting to share. It almost fits your story (despite obviously being season 3). Photo courtesy of Sci-Fi.com via New Atlantis.

BTW other than 'Amazing Grace' what are your other fav gen fics, say top 5-10? I'm sadly behind in the gen-world....

Oh, neat photo! Thanks for sharing! It *does* kinda fit with the story, doesn't it...

I'm totally with you on the Saint Rodney the Martyr thing. I'm getting so very tired of that kind of story.

BTW other than 'Amazing Grace' what are your other fav gen fics, say top 5-10?

Egad, you want me to choose? ;)

I need to get off to work, but I'll post a few links here before I go ...

Short stories-

Deflection
http://www.ltljverse.com/watergate/stories/deflection.htm
This story is just beautifully crafted -- after reading it the first time, I immediately went back and read it several more times to hunt for the cleverly placed clues. It is a sorta-sequel to another story by this author, but you don't need to have read it to understand this one. (It just helps to know that it *is* a sequel when all of a sudden they start referencing events that didn't happen in the series.)

The Moon Be Still As Bright
http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=5588
A short, poignant post-Conversion AU -- great idea, great execution.

Death & the Astrophysicist
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3218958/1/
This story just came out a few days ago and immediately leapt onto my personal "best of" list. A Grodin POV on the events of the series after his death.

The House John Built
http://control-freak80.livejournal.com/101141.html
How the series *should* end.

Reluctant Hero
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2895398/1/
In which Rodney gets to do what he actually does best, even if he doesn't know it.

Gah, I need to get to work. More tonight!

Which story is it a sequel to? Coz I've read the 'Retrograde' series. The others don't look familiar, so I've got some great surprises to look forward to I hope!

Thank you *hugs*. You're a star!

[identity profile] friendshipper.livejournal.com 2006-11-02 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not Retrograde (although you're right, same author), and I don't want to say which one it *is* because that gives a clue to one of the big plot twists and, really, it's better if you don't have a clue.

I'll give you more links when I get home tonight. It's fun to have an excuse to go back through my saved stories and bookmarks and pick out the best ones! Lots of re-reading joy!

[identity profile] with-apostrophe.livejournal.com 2006-11-03 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
OK read, the first two and they both make me jealous - 'The Moon...' has such beauty of language and 'Deflection' is so complex - I can't write like that! *waaaa!*

So now you can tell me what 'Deflection' is a sequel to. (oh look, I ended hat sentence with a preposition - O'Neill is yelling at me!) *grins*

It's a sequel to this one:

I didn't have a chance to go link-hunting tonight, but I'll definitely get you some more this weekend.

A few more gen recs ... long ones, this time.

Your Cowboy Days Are Over
http://www.butcheredart.net/Fiction/YourCowboyDays.html
This one gets my pick for "best-written SGA gen fic ever". It's a long, dark AU that diverges from canon at a certain point -- telling you where would be a spoiler. But the plotting, the writing, the character voices, the alien cultures, even the OC's ... everything is just gorgeous and superb and heart-breaking.

Eurydice Turns Left
http://www.wraithbait.com/viewstory.php?sid=7189&i=1
A great team action-adventure story, with a lovely, understated way of depicting the character relationships.

I'm not sure how much you read SGA gen, because if so you have probably come across NotTasha and/or Tipper. But I don't care, I'm rec'ing them anyway...

Under Glass
http://www.nottasha.com/glass.htm
I enjoy pretty much everything by NotTasha, but this is my favorite of hers. A fast-paced, suspenseful team fic. And she just finished another good one here: http://www.nottasha.com/stars.htm

Tipper is another author whose work I enjoy; I'm not sure if you've read anything of hers, but she writes long, plotty, action-type stories. Sheppard Moon ( http://megtipper.tripod.com/sheppardmoon.htm ) and Failure to Communicate ( http://megtipper.tripod.com/failure.htm ) are two of my favorites of hers.

*off to sleep*

Big Congrats!

Wicked cool! Congrats on the award. You deserve it. I really love your writing. Keep it up!
