A fic preview in vid form!

The help_haiti fics are supposed to be done by Feb. 14 ... *coughcough* notgonnahappen. Since my fic is currently floundering in the throes of massive POV and plot woes, I decided to give astridv a vid preview of it instead! I hope this will tide you over 'til I get the actual fic done.

The story behind the vid is that the fic I'm writing is an AU, and I realized as I worked on it that I imagined it as a sort of '80s TV show, with lots of explosions and car chases and such. And an '80s TV show needs ... cheesy '80s credits! (Yes, this is why I was asking for clips of Sam in civvies. :D)

I guess the best way to describe this thing is "Birds of Prey meets the A-Team". :D The music is the theme song for Airwolf (anyone remember that show?). So, astridv, if your fic (tentatively titled "Finders") was a TV show, these would be its credits.

(After the previous conversation about vidding, I know that some people prefer streaming vids, so I intend to start offering streaming versions of mine when I can -- but there's a learning curve, so it's still download-only for now. It had three seasons with excellent helicopter stunts, Jan Michael Vincent and Ernest Borgnine, then for the "4th" season everyone left and they reset it all with stock footage and Barry Van Dyke, Michelle Scarabelli and Gerwaint Davies.. wasn't quite so good by that point:/.. kinda like Galactica 80 was to original Battlestar Galactica..

I'm so glad you told me where you got the music, because otherwise I'm pretty sure I'd have sat there the whole time and thought, "Where do I know this from?" (Then I'd probably have replayed it, then called in Brilliant Husband—and he wouldn't know it because he didn't watch—and then I'd probably resort to asking you.)

I'm so delighted that you like it; I'm kinda going off your prompt, but I think I know enough of your reading tastes by now to have a general idea of the sort of thing you like, so I'm going with that too. :D And the idea of Rodney as, basically, Oracle was just too much fun for me to say no to myself. :DDD

One thing that there was just no way to get across in the vid is that the whole "series" is based around Sam having a metaphysical ability to "read" objects and locate their owners (or find a missing object itself). That's what she and her team do -- they find missing things and people, using her ability.

I keep wondering what's happened to Rodney? And could Sam be any more badass? (I think not.) Teyla and Jennifer kick ass and look damn hot while doing it! And John and Ronon as detective partners! And Jeannie all badass with technology! Heeeh.

Oh, that was clever. The role reversal in general was nice, but I really just liked that it was clips of the ladies being badass (and Teyla totally looking like she belonged in BoP) and competent and put-together and, you know, masters of their own agency in a way that the shows never allowed them.

(And if Elizabeth were to exist as as a kind of Charlie/Pete Thornton/Higgins-type person...)

And that's a good idea with Elizabeth! I can totally see her being their State Department contact who knows everyone and can get anything ... but with her own agenda as well.

Although I get the single weirdest error while playing it in VLC, which I have screencapped for posterity (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v375/alessandriana/Snapshot2010-02-1222-34-51.jpg). The entire video played like that-- tilted, split, and oddly-colored. I was like, gee, that's an... interesting... editing choice. Then I thought to play it in Quicktime, and it plays normally there. Not sure if it's the video or my computer or what.

Oh no! Do you have VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/)? Apparently that's been working for people, particularly the newest version.
