Being Human 2x04

I'm glad I watched 2x03 and 2x04 back to back, because my main reaction at the end of 2x03 was a lot of irritation and frustrated flailing. I hated the matchmaking plot (matchmaking in general is a trope I dislike); I hated Annie continuing to define herself through other people, and George's moping, and Mitchell going over to the dark side -- and then the episode ended with the double whammy of the revelation about Lucy being on the bad guys' side AND my worst fear being realized ... Nina about to enter the pressure chamber!

The bits I did like (Annie and George's sibling-like cuteness; Mitchell giving George a talking-to about his moping; the boys' pathetic idea of verbal "sharing"; the guy reading the scroll and hamming it up Monty Python-style in the beginning) were heavily outweighed by the rest.

But then we had 2x04 to make up for it.

SQUEEEEEE. My show is back!

I loved seeing all of them taking control of their own lives. And, yeah, in some cases it didn't work out so well -- the outcome in all but Annie's case was heartbreaking (and hey, other shows, take a cue from this one on how to make violence horrible and not at all sexy, because the scene with George beating up his sleazy boss ... oog, I don't think I'm going to be able to watch that again). But Annie learning to defend herself and standing up to the gatekeepers was awesome, and the group are bonding and supporting each other again, and had all kinds of cute moments together. And Nina lived!

I feel a little weird being all "Squee! Show!" when it ended in such a terrible place for George (and Mitchell to a lesser extent). And I want to talk a lot about how Mitchell's efforts to do the right thing are just resulting in more harm -- he's really between a rock and a hard place right now. But this is the right kind of bleak/tragic/heartbreaking, not the kind that makes me want to smack the writers with a cluebat. And we're getting banter and sweetness to offset the darkness, and interesting side characters as well. It took me over a week to finally work up the motivation to watch these episodes, but now? CAN HAVE NEXT EPISODE PLEASE!

The thing that I most like about BH and what made me itch its for the next series is its quality.

The writers have written the series as a whole story, the arch and flow is based over the number of episodes they have and they use that time well. So you get those moments where you are going

WTF!...WHAH!..What!...What!...What!...What!...Ohhhhhhh!.. oh crap!..

And of course the awesomely funny dialogue, which is often funny becaus eits funny not because they are "trying" to be funny. Its so natural, especially when it is all going down the tubes fast (I still laugh out loud whith the scene of George planning to go out and attack vampires with a whisk and a phone charger plug:D:D:D).

Mitchell is so one of those poor guys who tries like crazy to do the right thing and the more he tries the worse everything goes. Possibly because he over thinks it, and possibly because he is one of those people who attracts crap.

*nods* I really love how there's obviously a plan, and even though each episode has its own mini-arc, it still furthers the overall story. And like you said, I love how the humor, in general, grows naturally out of the situation, and how some episodes can be marvelously funny without being deliberately absurd.

I loved that scene with George too. And it's just so very *George*! Or in this episode, the lists, and the pots of food arranged by size and flavor -- it's very funny, and yet, it's very much in character as well.

Mitchell is so one of those poor guys who tries like crazy to do the right thing and the more he tries the worse everything goes. Possibly because he over thinks it, and possibly because he is one of those people who attracts crap.

*nods* And I like how the show doesn't offer us any easy answers, either. The vampires are also people -- not just former people, but people now. Killing them all to save the humans, which is what the old guy is trying to do, is clearly the wrong thing to do. Mitchell killing the one girl vampire was shocking and horrible, and it was supposed to be. And he's right that if he just walks away, lots of people on both sides are going to die. But the moral compromises he's having to make are horrible too.

i got to say i was glad to see this last episode as well
i am not a big fan of this seasons' vampire story line

i can't say why but i just don't care about the other vampires. they don't interest me. they could have gone with the twist with the evil dr lady and just skipped over the whole save the vampire angle

gads i so loved annie in this and her captain jack wannabe, loved that she learned some stuff... i wonder if the fact that she could make people see her for a while makes her different and what that might mean

and gads i just freaking love george in every way my poor schmoo
i love that his wolf seems to live within him as almost a seperate entity.. hehe and george correcting the spelling on the mirror was just so brilliant

I'm really not fond of vampire stories in general, because the vampire "mystique" does nothing for me, but I like how they've developed a compelling dilemma for Mitchell. Though I'm awfully worried about where they're going with this, since I can't see any possible outcome that's not horribly devastating.

and george correcting the spelling on the mirror was just so brilliant

Ha, yeah, that's a very George thing to do. :)

i think thats just it for me to ... the vampire Mist mystique doesn't really intrest me either,.... though i really like Mitchell i prefer him alone and away from the other vampires
